Since there are always several games scheduled early on Saturday afternoon so they can be broadcast outside the FOX zone and these games are available on RSNs, I believe the blackouts on Directv are not mandated by MLB but are done entirely by DTV. I understand the blackout rule if a team in your home area is on, but if they are not these games SHOULD be available too subscribers.

FOX blackout rule hasn't changed even though all the start times for their games are the same now. it runs from 1pm to 7pm ET. It's been this way since EI started in 1996.

Why are the games on the RSN and blacked out in my area ? Cubs and Yankees both on with "Not Available in your area" note. If this were a Friday afternoon, both would be on. Orioles and Nationals not on this afternoon, so that is not a conflict.

EI is blacking out the 1pm eastern games?

That is Directv at fault, MLB.TV does not have blackouts.

Incorrect .....

D* is not doing this, MLB is.

D* never blacks out a game unless they are told to by the team or the league or the rights owning network.
D* is just the provider, they don't have the say in what gets shown.

You are the incorrect one !

The Cubs schedule these games at 12:05 so they can be shown and ARE shown on CSN. If they are on the air in Chicago, you explain too me how MLB is responsible for any unavailability on DTV.

D* does NOT black out a game without being told to do so.

They only pass the signal along that they get sent to them.

You would have to ask MLB why they did not allow D* to carry the game then.
Let us know what they say.

My point exactly. The signal was obviously sent to them and available in
Chicago. They have the resources to black it out to my receiver not MLB.

I guess you missed MikeI's post that says the blackout window is between 1PM and 7PM Eastern

so any game that is on during that time is blacked out on EI

Iceberg, I'm not worried about EI.I want to know why the RSN is blacked out on my sports package. And the Cubs game had a 12:05 start time just so it was not in the blackout period.I have sent an e-mail to MLB asking for an explanation and will post their response here if I get one.

NO games between 1 and 7 will be allowed per the FOX agreement.

Don't blame D* for something that is out of thier hands.

It's been this way for quite some time, I'm surprised people are still expecting the rules to be changed for thier area .

Jimbo, That is exactly what I expect to hear from MLB if they reply to my e-mail. I guess it makes sense, but the blackout rules are frustrating, especially in hockey and basketball seasons. I don't think a transplanted Yankee fan living in say Utah is going to cost the team a ticket sale. Thanks to all for your responses.

I guess we can only hope that MLB won't be dumb enough to sign another contract like that with another network, FOX or otherwise.
I know ESPN has the Wednesday night contract, but if the Tigers (example) are playing on Wednesday night, they are still available on the RSN's.

Seeing FOX owns the rights to Saturday 1-7 you would think that they would allow the RSN's to show seeing they are also FOX REGIONAL Networks
the FSN's are FOX owned, not sure why they do it that way.

I was trying to find the contract that Fox has with MLB, but all I seem to find so far is the extension for the ASG and WS games.

If you are outside of the teams designated area, then the only way to see those games is on EI

The RSN package (multi-sport) has to black out the games outside of the local teams areas
