The league didn't back off that. Pulling the Saturday games from CBS & FOX to accomodate the late season Thurs/Sat package was known by all networks prior to the last contract extension.

As far as the scheduling goes, come April, I bet we all find out that the NFL's PR guy wasn't in the loop.

The league did pull back but not on puling saturday games. They pulled back on the announcement concerning whether the Dallas Washington game would be the first Thursday night matchup. I agre though that we will find out in April.
