Well, if the link below works, it's to what seems to me to be an excellent deal for a two night package deal for a two night stay at a Niagara Falls hotel up until Feb. 22nd I think. I guess the hotel is in Ontario, Canada and you can upgrade to a falls view room for a total of $202 it says. I don't know if there are any other fees (it didn't mention any) or what taxes there are. It is for Sunday through Thursday arrivals. If it was a bit closer to Southern California I would go for it.

Actually, tell everyone. I've been there more than once. The U.S. side is, err, not as safe as one would hope. In fact, lock your doors, don't stop, just cross over to Canada and breathe a sigh of relief. Fill up your tank before you get to the area, so you don't have to get out of your car on the American side, or pay the high Canadian prices.

It would be a bit tough to take the "Maid of the Mist" this time of year, but then that's why there's such a great deal.

Thank you. I'll speak to She Who Must Be Obeyed and see if she would like to splurge. It's about an 8 hour drive from us.

Maybe a few of us should have a SatGuys meeting up there. Alert the Prize Goddess. ;)

Oddly enough, She Who Must Be Obeyed likes the idea. Imagine that. Looks like we'll be making the trip, especially if we can keep it under $500 total.

Thanks again. I think.

SatGal-

Is there rush hour traffic in the morning around the Buffalo area? If we were to leave NF Canada at 8 a.m. on a Tuesday would we be delayed in rush hour traffic as we drive on Peace Bridge, 190 & 90?

TIA

Compared to other places it really isnt too bad here. BUT!......... the bridge itself gets backed up a lot and sometimes there just isnt much rhyme or reason to it. Usually it isnt bad at that hour and if there is a problem you will hear it on the news.
Also... I really laughed when I read what you said. I get made fun of because I "dont go into Buffalo" for very much. I just keep to my stomping grounds around Amherst. I dont want to end up in one of the bad neighborhoods. But I had no problem on the American side of the falls. The difference is WHERE in Niagara Falls you are.... just like most cities. We go to Goat Island for the Cave of the Wind and it really isnt bad around there. Where the casino is isnt very nice though.

Also.... just FYI If you take the Rainbow bridge it is MUCH better and you end up right by that Marriott. The Peace bridge is all the truckers and that's one of the reasons it gets backed up so much.

Wow! That's a great deal. Will have to tell the wife. We're overdue for our visit to see her family in Buffalo.

It really is a good deal but I would feel guilty doing it. It just isnt far enough away. It's been a really mild winter here and we haven't gotten much in the way of snow since the "October Surprise". It has turned a little colder lately but it still hasn't really been that bad so you could wander around the area. Go to the Hershey store. It tastes different from Canada ... especially the dark chocolate.

It says somewhere on the travelzoo offer that you have to book the deal through their online link.

BUT---I just called the hotel to check and the guy said it is actually better if you call them directly. Call 1-888-501-8916 and mention the promotion code The Zoo.
And if you want the upgrade to the Falls View room ($42 more) for $202? total better be sure to ask for it.

You might check on the total price they are charging you if you do book a room with them.

Agreed! Heading over to the casino tomorrow in fact! Just watch the bridges in the summer, thats when they can get backed up. I've waited 3+hrs before!

Is that $202 US or CN? If it's CN I may just go up for a couple of days! :) I haven't been to the falls since I was a wee little lad. I only remember the Wac museum. :)

See ya

Pretty sure it's $202 dollars U.S. Offer definitely says $160 U.S. plus $42 upgrade (doesn't say if upgrade is U.S. or CN).

It's US dollars. I called. An extra day ranges from about $125 to $225, US, depending upon weekday or weekend.

I didn't know there was a Women's Army Corps museum anywhere, much less near Niagara Falls! ;)

Thanks for the info, SatelliteGal. We are still thinking it over- can't get it under $600 for the whole trip, gotta balance that against other trips or ways to spend the money. 1,000 miles plus of driving, extra meals, etc. But we love Canada. Probably decide tomorrow.

The area we were a bit offput about was near the water, seemed to be a downtown area. It had a red brick shopping mall, two story if I recall, that seemed to have been recently built (this was some years ago). No one on the streets, very very few people in the mall. I'll have to ask my wife, I'll bet she remembers just where it was.

Well, thank you again, Gary S. My wife & I called and made the reservation (you pretty much AREN'T going to make it online) and arrive there 1/21. We'll probably arrive in the area that morning & look around before checking in to the hotel.

And thank you, SatelliteGal & others for the extra information.

If anyone is interested, check in is at 3, check out is noon. And when you make the reservations by phone, they transfer you to the spa to pick which treatment and set a time. The spa accepts reservations starting at 8 and the last one at 7:45 and the treatments take 45 minutes.

We are trying to decide whether to take the Accord, or the 4 wheel drive diesel pickup. We figure the pickup will cost about 70% more in fuel costs- but that's the choice if there's snow or ice on the roads.

Sounds like your comment should lean us toward the pickup. I guess we'll be checking the Buffalo weather forecast before leaving.

Thank you.

You're welcome! Have a great time for me. I would love to go there on this deal if it was much closer.

You say you picked your spa treatment. The offer says one spa treatment. I am wondering is that one each or just one total included in the deal?

Also, you probably know, you can often request a late checkout. Hotels will often give you at least an extra hour.
