Just had comcast installed last Saturday, i'm now on my 4th dvr, 1st one couldn't get On Demand, 2nd one had a broken face plate, 3rd one Dvr didn't work, this one I can't get Guide data or get the menu bar, two calls to tech. support got the usual request unplug unit and wait 45 minutes. naturally it didn't work. They will send out tech. support on Thursday. is there any thing I can do other than unplugging the unit again. to force a guide download ? I'm trying to be patient but this is getting ridiculous

How long have you waited for guide data? Back when I had Comcast, guide data took a minimum of one hour before I got the next 4 hours worth of data. Watching TV on the box could drag that out to 4 hours or more. Turning the box off (standby) could speed that up to 30-45 mins. for the same "Next 4 hours" of guide data. Getting more than that required the cable box to be on off (standby) between 12:30 am and 4:00 am (really random when it would fill in)

Oh, I noticed the missing guide data Friday afternoon when i got home from work, it's now 11:50 pm on Sunday and still no guide. I use to have the data but i called tech. support about not having On Demand. they fixed it and that's when i lost the guide data, go figure. So now come Thursday I get another DVR. I just hope its not an antiquated one. and that it actually works

Silver mesh DCH-43xx had a buggy GUI but reliable recorder

The all black DCX-43xx was the best one we had but it was a bit fussy and would dump all but 4-hours of guide data from time to time.

Went to a Comcast center yesterday and exchanged the DVR for another one, hooked up the reconditioned one and everything is good. So much for tech support,
