Dish said NO to YES. They wanted more money from dish then from the cable companies.

You said Yes to directv because the YES network wanted to extort Dish customers? Kind of odd reasoning. I would figure you said yes to Directv because they carried the channels you wanted or something. :D

Please Scott, ask your contacts about a 921 swap.

I have been holding on until I know something. I will be pissed if the 942s get swapped but the more expensive 921s do not.

And while you are at it, see what they think about those of us who own 6000u receivers, please.

you need to say YES to the directv forum and stay out of here, you and your boy curtis, We are discussing DISH NETWORKS plans, not directv, thank you, start a thread in the directv forum if you want, but please dont put side comments in here!

Looks like I stired up the pot a bit with my posting.

Just got a call...

And I will try to write it as it was told to me. (And while I am quoteing its is not a direct quote)

On the 942+ "The informaiton may or may not correct, we are trying a few different things and we have not determinded anything yet. Also there is no decission about upgrading customers equipment to MPEG4 yet."

Read into it as you want, again I am only passing along what I am hearing and being told. Is it true or not true? You got me. I hope its true. :D

At the time of this post there were 106 people viewing this thread. A whole lot of people are anxious to get any clue as to E*'s plans. I don't want to wait until CES, I want to figure out which way they plan on going beforehand (I know Charlie likes playing poker with us, but this is getting annoying.... Super Bowl is a month and a half away and I was hoping to have it in HD (I'm too far away for decent antenna reception according to antennaweb.org).

Met fan here...... Up until now, I agreed with Tom. If they get SNY, I'll be a happy man, otherwise I'll be whimpering as well.....

I could care less about MSG and Fox Sports now.... let'em go away if they have to....

I know the Knicks are still there, who's left?

I think dish should swap out all the old HD receivers. It's their decision to go to mpeg4 and we shouldn't have to pay more for it. I was an early 811 adopter and I just think it's only fair that they replace my soon to be obsolete unit.

When we wanted locals in Wisconsin they gave us a super dish. Well, we want HD locals so they should give us that equipment as well. Especially if we can't get them without an antenna.

Trickle down swapping

If there is anything to swapping out the 942 for the 942+, I suspect that E* will take the swapped 942's and modify them to 942+ and will use them as re-manufactured and also may use them for swap out of the 921. However it works it will be a trickle down effect.

I sure hope you tongue was placed firmly in you cheek when you wrote the above.

E* is not a charitable organazation the are a for profit publicly traded company.

At this time HD is a premium product...you wana play you have to pay. You dont have to like it vote with you pocket book but dont act as if we live in a Socialist or even worst society and expect handouts especially on luxury item.

If (and it's a big if) the early use of mpeg4 is to bring hd locals and the rest of the new hd will be available with existing hd receivers there really would not be a big need to swap out all the old receivers. Just do it city by city as the hd locals roll out. The 942+ is a bridge for mpeg4. Eventually all hd will go to mpeg4 and when that happens I expect they will honor their committment to swapping it all out. But it makes sense that Dish will target sending replacements to places that really need it first. (That is just what I read into it as far as trying to mesh the tech and Charlie chats.)

I know it's the wrong thread but I thought I might be able to help you with your OTA problem. How far are you from what antennaweb.org has told you? I live 60 miles from Austin, TX and 80 miles from San Antonio, TX. According to antennaweb.org, I shouldn't be able to pick up any digital stations from where I live. With a small 36 element directional antenna and a 28db pre-amp, I pick up stations from both cities with a signal anywhere from 70-95%.
