I normally agree with the sentiments that Dish's 4K is too dark (only when it's a 4K HDR feed being converted to SDR) but I think the 4K HDR Olympics programming looks fine.

It looked dark to me until I took it out of HDR Dark mode on my TV. (Doh!)

It’s a lot better now but still not very sharp like I get from Netflix 4K HDR / Dolby Vision. Or my 4K Blu-ray’s.

But it is better than what’s being shown on the other NBC stations.

Yeah, given the upscaling from 1080p I'm not surprised. But the color/brightness is way better than SDR to me.

What is the 4k picture like
Any better than 1080

Yes for the main reason is we never get to see the full uncompressed 1080p signals. So this appears like a huge step up which is kind of sad because 1080 should look like this all the time.

Now that I found and am using some recommended HDR settings for my particular 4K TV, I am really enjoying these Olympic broadcasts in 4K HDR. The picture is amazing, the best I've ever seen on my TV set. I wish everything was like this. I still get some pretty amazing pictures from regular HD, just not quite anything like this!
