One line from satellite DVR help

I have only one receiver in my house which is my new DVR with Direct TV. I'm wondering if anyone knows is the one line from the satellite can be split at the bottom so I can watch another channel while it records.

Most of what I find is that you need to LNB's with a multi-switch. A lot of that I see also refers to more than one receiver and I just have the one. Anyone know?

Nope, you have to have 2 separate lines, either from the dish or multiswitch.
Since you say new, why didn't your installer install what was necessary to finish the job?
I'd be calling them back up & finding out why & have them finish what they started.
