Dish can kiss my ass I'll figure something else out.
Really steamed that I was hung out to dry, buying a "backup" DVR "on sale" that they knew darn well I'd never get to use. I don't think there's a thimble full of ethics in the entire industry.
At least the dang "record" function still works. Guess I'll have to drag my old FTA box out again. Sucks...

Found this to be the richest part of the DISH offer, "Activation charges: "No Annual Contract Plan" requires a $150 activation fee and buying a receiver ($50-$350 based on selected equipment) unless exceptions otherwise noted."
If I'm reading this right, this offer is no different than any other offer DISH peddles, free everything with a contract, otherwise fees up the yin-yang.

Just checked fleabay, lots of Orby boxes for sale there too. No ethics there either. Be different if there was some other use for it besides a doorstop.
Just found the program guide still works! This is great! Now I can see what was supposed to be on, and what it is I'm missing and can't watch!

That's why I hope someone can tinker with the firmware to support OTA and perhaps, FTA. There's way too many of these boxes floating around to end up in landfills.
Say it isn't so! I think we all knew in our hearts this was coming but hoped against hope that it wouldn't happen.

Didn't someone post the DVR was still working with OTA? If that continues, it is of some value.
Agree. OrbyTV knew this was coming. Why didn't they make an announcement?! "...we will quit on date xxxxx. schedule your next service install now if so inclined..." Nothing!
I am guessing this guide data will be next to die. Usually guide data is approx 2 weeks of info. When we get to end of current guide, that's it. No way to schedule manually dvr is dead too.

Maybe when I get ambitious, I'll drag my old Linkbox HD Local out and hook back up to FTA. It's Fta, OTA, and PVR in one.

Bought one of these several years ago because it was so cheap, but never used it, because my Linkbox recorded, and incorporated FTA and OTA, but I did hook it up to test it, and it recorded good. I'm covered if the Orby DVR dies.

This is really unfortunate. People spend hundreds of dollars and now the equipment is like a boat anchor. That sucks. At least with streaming, if one service folds, your equipment still works for everything else.
I wonder if BestBuy knew. If they had their receiver clearance knowing that OrbyTV was going out of business it's disgraceful.
They are, as of 03-01-2021 at 1004, still selling orbytv receivers and dvrs!!!
I would not have touched Orby with a 3 meter pole, this is why, it was always going to happen.
How absolutely brilliant of you, especially since it wasn't offered where you are anyway...
Never checked it out I am happy with my provider, I was skeptical of Orby from the outset.
