OTA no working after Update

Advertisements
Not to bash Dish but dang it, they deserve some bashing on this. They send a work order out to ME when they KNOW there is nothing I can do except waste my time....something they have NO respect for.
The customer I mentioned actually thanked me for telling him the truth rather than blowing sunshine up his rear. I've had a solid policy ever since I went into business in 1984....I won't tell a customer a lie and if I don't know...I'll admit I don't know. A lot of people have this strange aversion to admitting they don't know something. I don't see what the big deal is...nobody knows everything.
I would be shocked if it's been added to the known issues database yet

The only alternative is to subscribe to the locals. Since Dish screwed up they should give you free OTA's until it's fixed. That's an additional cost of $15.00 per month. In September it goes to $17.00.
This is on reason why I never update software. Some members can't wait until they can update. Still on 708.

In the case I mentioned, he does sub to the locals but we have one of those odd areas where the towers for 2 DMAs are 50 miles away and the locals Dish gives him aren't the ones he wants. He gets Panama City locals but wants the ones out of Dothan, AL. He's a farmer and the weather forecast out of Panama are useless.....it never rains in Panama.....grab your tourist money and come on down. The weather reports out of Dothan are far more accurate and that's what he was using the OTA for.

FYI for what it is worth, I am on SW H711. I have a H3 and two Joey 3 units. I also use the OTA dongle and all of my locals are working fine on both the H3 and Joey's. Thinking then that not all H3's are affected.

My locals are the Twin Cities (Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN).
I could be wrong here, but I believe there were at least a couple model numbers of the OTAs Dish sold for the H3. It could be that one works but not the other.
I had one at the store and gave it to someone a few days ago. He said it would scan the channels but refused to load them in the guide. I figured it was just defective.....it had been on that shelf all of us dealers have with things we hate to throw away.

Is this issue fixed yet? I just got a workorder from Dish and when I contacted the customer he said his OTA wasn't working anymore. I told him it was a software issue and would only be fixed when they debug what they bugged.
That explains why they set his work order up TWO WEEKS from now. They were hoping the problem would be resolved. The pain in the butt thing is they leave dealers like ME to break the truth to the customer and THEN the customer is mad because they were lied to by a customer svc rep.
Thanks for that info! At least that tells me maybe it will get fixed ... sometime not too long from now. I may just move the OTA cables over to the tv's for now. Like I said I am now also heavily looking at all the streaming pkgs available and may switch to a tablo and streaming. So I guess dish support rep's don't post on any of the forums like they used to huh?

While you are working on doing that trade from the OTA adapter to the TV you might think about adding a splitter and wiring both permanantly. That way whenever the Dish issue is fixed you are already set up.

How do you avoid updating something that does it on its own?

There IS no way. Dish doesn't ask for permission, that's buried in the fine print of the agreement you sign when you get installed initially.
Well......I guess you could theoretically avoid updates by having the rec never go to sleep. Only problem with that is that sooner or later, having outdated software will cause its own issues.

Yes, and my OTA Dual Tuner adapter works with the Hopper H3 with H711 software and the Hopper Plus with P15315 software. My specific model from the label:
Model: Dual OTA Adapter P/N 213293 which is the same one shown in AirTV dual OTA adapter, "newest" DISH adapter and DishDepot

Perhaps people whether or not they have the OTA issue can post with their results and their specific model.

My receiver is set to never go to sleep but there is no way around the nightly reboot as that will happen regardless if one likes it or not unless one manually overrides it by clicking on continue to watch tv at the time when it shows on the screen that it will reboot in 1 minute each night. The outdated software will eventually update on it's own, just that checking will allow to get it sooner. It's a YMMV situation as sometimes the new software might be better or it could introduce new problems.

I also have the Hopper H3 with H711 software and the Hopper Plus with version P15315. My OTA model is P/N 213293. My OTA channels are displayed normally in the guide, except for the network icon such as ABC. Mine says "Over the Air" rather than the ABC network name. My problem is trying to schedule OTA DVR recordings. If two satellite channels, such as TBS and TCM, are currently in use the Hopper seems to think that they are OTA channels and says that I have no tuners available.

Same here with the "Over the Air" instead of the network logo. I am unable to comment on the OTA DVR recordings part as my DVR has been at 100% since probably 2 years ago and I haven't taken time to move them to external HDD's to free up some space.

So how many people are having an issue with the OTA adapters not working?

Can someone provide exactly what's happening, adapter is not recognized when it's plugged in or is it something else?
