The USB thing is more of a pain in the ass. I've got a Hopper3 on the bench right now trying to get through the wizard. I usually do that here then after hooking up at the customer's I break out of the wizard, do a switch test, go back in the wizard, then activate. Usually about 10 minutes instead of a nightmare. If you get a minute message me with that workaround please?
The heat really sucks. I literally heard my hand sizzle when i braced myself on a roof yesterday. Ouch!
Here's what I do on every new Hopper.
Leave the coax disconnected, boot up, and pair the remote.
When it starts the check switch, skip back - recall skip back out.
Go to the Check Switch screen.
Change Tuner from 0 to 1 and connect the coax.
Back all the way, and it will go to the Acquiring Signal screen.
Let it finish acquiring; it'll either just stop when the progress bar is full or go to the TV Activity screen.
Power off on the front panel, then power on and activate the Hopper.
When it activates, it'll go to the Summary screen.
Then run a check switch - since it never ran- and set all the settings and watch TV.
Overnight, it will do the software update.
This is how I avoid using the USB Updater or doing a Satellite download.
It makes replacing a bad receiver only take about 10 minutes.
Last Friday, I came home with full-blown heat exhaustion, and I still haven't fully recovered.
61 is too old for this, in this heat, so I'm done. I can't do another summer
