Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if it is can you direct me to the correct forum....

My folks just got their DTV box and have it hooked up but are able to receive only the local station - KQTV (53 digital). They do not currently have an external antenna. With the internal antenna they are able to additional receive the KC and Topeka stations. Are they going to need to have an external antenna installed or will the TV stations be increasing power once the analog signal is shut off next year?

thanks

This is the correct forum. I would go over to TV Fool - Home and type in your exact address. It will show you tables of what signals can be received before and after the transition along with signal strengths. What type of antenna do they have now?

KQTV-DT is less than 5 miles from you. The rest are 50+ miles out and over the horizon and will require an outdoor antenna, probably near fringe performance for stable reception.
