OTA sub channels

Sub channels appear like this

Do the sub channels have specific channel numbers to pull her guide data?

They don't use the specific channel numbers to pull the guide data, they use TMS IDs - basically numbers that have been assigned by Tribune Media Services or their successors. For ones with a TMS_ID over 65535, Directv uses a defunct number under 65535 (because their guide data system apparently can't handle larger numbers) and some type of internal mapping. They've deployed that across most DMAs, but a few remain that they never got around to it and those are missing some subchannels.

I’m trying to add OTA sub channels to a retirement home using a Directv Com1000.

We are pulling all the locals off air and the major networks are no issue.

Unfortunately the sub channels I can’t get data for.

However 65535 is interesting because it’s in the text file used to program the guide data[

65535 is the largest number you can fit in two bytes. I'm sure that's why it was the limit for Directv, their guide data format must have allocated only two bytes when it was designed - assuming there would never be more than 65536 channels to worry about. They didn't foresee the huge flood of subchannels.

What market is this for? Directv has added the guide data for subchannels in all but a few dozen markets. Not sure why they stopped before they were finished, but they seem to have lost interest in promoting the LCC so maybe they have gone back to not caring about OTA.

Detroit DMA

You should be able to get guide data for these stations in Detroit. If you aren't, I'd probably chalk it up to something funky about the way the COM1000 works. How you are getting the off air stations, with the COM module for ATSC or some other method?

Pulling 61 channels on this...

Silver unit on top is taking 8 OTA Channels and converting to 35 QAM channels including all sub channels.

Com2000 is providing guide and (6) religious SD channels. Have guide data for all satellite channels and 8 major network channels.

First zee vee is providing 4 Hd channels from h35’s

2nd and 3rd zee vee is providing 16 SD channels with H25’s

It’s in a church retirement home.

So are you getting guide data for the channels I listed? The reason you are picking up 61 but maybe only have guide data for those 35 or so is because some of the channels you are picking up may be out of the Detroit market, and some may be low power channels which Directv does not deliver guide data for in any market.

No, I think Claude means 61 channels in all for the entire headend system, satellite and OTA ...

8 primary OTA channels (with guide info.)
27 secondary OTA sub-channels (*without guide info.*)
4 satellite delivered HD channels (with guide info.)
16 satellite delivered SD channels (with guide info.)
6 more satellite delivered SD channels (with guide info.) from the COM 2000 system which provides guide data for both systems....

Total = 61 channels

In the above it's the 27 OTA secondary sub-channels without guide data for some reason are the problem ....
