I have used a Terk Over the Air Antenna with my Dish 500 system for 5 years it works great. The antenna sits on the dish and the signal runs on the same cable as the satellite which I split using a Diplexer inside the house.

Recently Dish Network contacted me to upgrade me to Dish 1000 plus system for my international programming to continue. The technician who came in said that the Over the Air antennas dont work with the new dish and I would have to the run the OTA signal on a separate cable to inside my house.

Is it true that I cannot use the antenna with the Dish 1000+ dish and combione the signal like I currently do ?

The 1000+ uses an external switch (DPP-44) and the OTA signal is supposed to enter the coax between the external switch and the house, which means it is more difficult to install the Terk on the dish (running coax back and forth between the dish and the switch). A second issue may be with the amount of current used on the Coax that feeds the external switch; that may cause problems with the built-in diplexer on the Terk.
There is some anecdotal evidence that you could connect the Terk just like before between the LNBs and the switch and the OTA would work...

While the Terk brand gets lots of flak, if it works for you, it may be worth trying.

My reason for stricking to it is because it does do a very good job for me. I can get about 40 locals in very good quality from two cities.

My current system also uses a switch although it is not a DPP-44. And I have it setup with the signal being combined at the dish itself.

Is there reason to believe that on the DISH 1000 the setup will not work because of some reason or is the technicial just BSing ?

If it works for you, give it a try. There was a post on this site (or perhaps another) where a person had their system working as you would like, then after a power outtage, it stopped working until the antenna was moved downstream from the switch. I have seen several posts about it working, but have never tried it myself.
