A moth ago, my OWNED 622 died after an unfortunate electrical mishap.

Dish made me send 'MINE' to them and the installer replaced it with another 622.

A week later, they recalled my leased 522 since I tried to reactivate it after having it idle while my 622 was being swapped.

When the installer came out, he changed my antenna from WA to EA. Only 3 months ago did I finally get my WA and Springfield Mo locals in HD on 110/119/129/77. Now I lost my SD's from 110.

I've recently read where I should have probably gotten a 722 or 722k instead. I was not given this option.

QUESTIONS::confused:

1- Now since I am in a true lease and my original investment of $511.00 is gone I am wondering if I should/could upgrade to a 722k or 922.

2- How long would I have to wait for my upgrade?

3- Is the 922 worth the extra outlay considering the installer said there is no TV2 yet and other bugs?

1) The 622 that the tech put in for you should still be considered a "purchased" receiver, not leased (purchased replaced with purchased, leased with leased).

2) Depends on the account

3) 922 does support a separate TV2, but the upgrade would be up to you.

If you PM a phone number or account number, I'll check the status of your receiver.

This is a common misunderstanding that I see on this board.

The 622, 722, and 722k are considered as being the same "family class" of HD DVR. The 922 is considered a different class.

Installers are not given an option. They can only carry what the warehouse gives them. The warehouse can only give out what Dish sends them. And there are times when Dish will ship nothing but the 622 to the warehouse, and Dish demands that they be used.

As far as the dish, the tech may have changed it because Dish wants a "one-dish" system as much as possible, or he felt you were losing signal or on the verge of losing signal from a Western Arc satellite, and flipped you over to Eastern Arc.

I would ask for the 722K and the free sling Adapter. And the whatever's on the truck still applys. When I upgraded I received the CS line about whats on the truck, I stressed that if I am signing a 24 month commitment I wanted 722k's. I received 3 722k's and was very happy. Hope your results are the same. Good luck.

I'm still stuck in LIMBO here.... So far the powers that be still think THEY own my 622, but I am working on proving it is mine.

I haven't got a solid answer from dish on a 722(k) since a 622 can't use the sling adapter and playing CSR roulette only gets me to a 922 if I pay $200 and commit to a 2 year contract. Of which I have been a loyal dish customer for nearly 10 years and don't care to switch now or any time soon. It's just the principle.

I'd like to put my (presumably owned) 622 in my travel trailer and get a 722k or 922 for my livingroom and hookups for TV2 (and/or TV3).

So in the meantime I just wait....

I replaced my 622 with a 922 a few months ago and haven't looked back. I don't have any problems or "issues" with my 922. It works perfect every day. Plus, the built in sling is awesome. And yes, I had to pay $200 for it.

and while you're waiting, why not PM MattG your information and he will be able to give you some concrete information.....

I don't have a problem with MATTG. He has been very helpful in resolving my ownership issue.

I do however have a problem with CSR's not being able to give me a straight answer on my upgrade path or costs.

Here is what I have so far:

$99 to upgrade to a 722/722(k) or $249.00 if I buy it (plus $99 for the Sling adapter) (Or $50 with rebate if I hurry)

Next path is $200 for a VIP922 upgrade that I will NEVER own or $499 outright to own it.

No matter how I cut it, Dish is wanting to clean out my wallet. I won't even comment on them charging me $30 more per month when they migrated me from AbsoluteHD to AT-200 as of Feb. 1. That is another story.

So I still have more questions than answers.

I guess it was the 'One Dish' solution. He should have ASKED me first though. I actually had better signal on the W.A.129(78/clear) than I do on 61.5(46 presently on a clear night) now. Plus, I lost my Springfield Locals in SD that were on 110(7222 Ky3/5202HD on 77 - SD not available on 77). I haven't had time to do a side-by-side comparison of E.A. to [W.A. + 77].

The upside is that I get a 9 day guide on 72' that I wouldn't have on 77'.

So I am stuck with EA for now at home, but 'snowbirding' and camping, I can still use my WA.

Or instead of him asking you first, you could of asked what the whole job entailed. And then requested to keep the one orbital you wanted to.

Techs get a work order and do as it says, if anybody wants anything diff, ya gotta ask.

Agreed. I should have asked. But since the 622 and the LNB were both fried, I just thought he would replace what was just installed 2 months earlier(give or take) by the previous installer. Again, this is a multifaceted issue as my OP stated. Matt is working on the 'own/lease' so part 1 is being fixed.

Part 2 is that I wasn't given an option to upgrade when I called dish initially, but now that I have my 622 replacement, I can upgrade NOW depending on how much I want to spend. Why I couldn't upgrade at the time is what I don't understand.

The third EA -vs-WA is not really an issue as it is more a question of changing my antenna setup after just a few months of WA+77 where I could get my locals in HD & SD with good signal to EA and locals in HD only and poorer signal. So agreeing that a 1-dish solution is the most likely reason the antennas were swapped, I just have to concede that I can only get my locals in HD and hope that I don't get a lot of storms this summer. Then this winter, I am not sure how snow is going to degrade my already lower signal level. I'll just have to wait and see.

UPDATE: Thanks to MattG/DIRT, my receiver now belongs to me... Once again. :D

I won't beat a dead horse on the issue of 'why couldn't I upgrade before now' because it just isn't productive. But, I do want to emphasize one last time the lack of foresight by the Dish representatives that told me I could not upgrade until I had the dead 622 RMA'd. I talked to my local installer today and he said that they are putting 722's in place of 622's requiring service because he can't order 622's any longer. So that is just another point in my corner. But I will forgive and forget at this point and move past what 'might have been'.

So now all that is left needing answered is IF/WHEN can I upgrade my equipment to a VIP722(k or no k) or VIP922 and the correct costs either way.

I now stand corrected on the sling adapter for the VIP722 being $99 through Dish or FREE w/Rebate. Not $50 as stated earlier.

Thanks everyone!

The question is when Dish gave you another 622, was that to replace the one that you owned that was out of warranty, or was it setup as an upgrade?

If they just swapped it out without doing whats called a "Dish N it up" then they where 100% correct when they replaced like with like when they gave you another 622.

If they did it as an upgrade, where they put you in another 24 month committment, then by all means I think you have the right to complain and request a 722.

You got to keep in mind that 99% of the customers out there do not know the difference between a 622, 722 and 722K. All they know is that they are getting an HD/DVR. Satelliteguys members are the only group of people I know who are tech savvy enough to know that there is a difference and specifically want the better unit.

I talked to my local installer today and he said that they are putting 722's in place of 622's requiring service because he can't order 622's any longer.

They can still get 622's, but it really depends on what is available. When replacing defective equipment, the policy again is like for like. If they get a work order to replace a defective 622, they are going to replace it with a 622 if they are available. If 722's are the only thing in stock, they will then give you a 722 only because they want to resolve your issue as soon as possible to keep you happy.

Claude,

It was to replace the 622 I bought in 2006 from you(Dishstore.net).

I understand replacing like for like, but seeing as my equipment was FUBAR, they could have said I could upgrade with a 2yr commitment to a 722(k) upon my initial call and not give me a runaround.

All my issues are now RESOLVED since MattG took the case.

I owned the original RMA'd 622, so the replacement is considered MINE now. (DONE)

I can upgrade to a LEASED 722 for free as long as I commit to 2 yr contract w/credit card. And I get a sling adapter for free too. (DONE) - No prob! This should have been out of the CSR's mouth a month ago.

I can get a LEASED 922 for a $200 upgrade fee, but it will never be mine with 2 yr contract and credit card. (DONE)

I can have the 722 or 922 at home AND 622 in RV and it cost only $17/extra month for each month both are active on my account.

That answers everything. The antenna was probably the '1-dish solution' as stated earlier. If rain/snow drop-out becomes an issue, I'll just call and get my WA+77 back.

Thanks MattG!

That's all!
