They just signed up for the 2 year agreement today and were shocked when there were no Yes Network or MSG, my dad is an avid sportsfan and didn't know this at all, is there anyway they can get out of this contract since they just signed it today, they did it through an offer through the phone company and they told me the representative told them that they were included, they said they love the hopper and the features the installer showed them but my dad really doesn't want to go without those sports channels, if anyone can help me about this I'd appreciate it greatly.

Well since evidently your parents didn't bother doing better homework on what channels are/are NOT on DISH, about their ONLY chance of getting out of this, is to call the "phone co" back & order them to allow them to cancel the DISH service, on the premise that they were (allegedly) lied to by the phone co rep himself, on these channels.
Also, it might help if they used a credit card to sign up for the service; the CC company might be able to get it canceled.

Either way, if neither of these things work, they may have to either suck it up for 2 years, or pay the cancellation fee - sorry, but they should have known what they were signing up for (ie: like read a channel list off of DISH's own website...) BEFORE they signed on the dotted line. That's life in the real world...

My parents are in their 80's. They grew up in a world where people, even sales people, were honest. I think your response, while accurate, was a bit harsh in tone.
Many states have the requirement that consumer contracts can be voided within a very short window, especially if they were provided erroneous information. The op needs to get on the web and check out his states consumer protection laws ASAP.

I myself have failed in my due diligence when I bought a Logitech Revue. Every media player I have ever owned (or read about earlier) can play US DVD rips. Not the Revue. :( Does this mean I'm getting old?

Does, New York have a 3 day grace period to cancel a contract? If so, get them to cancel right before that date passes.

Dish doesn't want unhappy customers. ERT or Executive Resolution Team can do more than our favorite DIRT members.

I 2nd the ERT suggestion. I would also contact your State Attorney General as that has a way of getting Dish's attention as well.

There are times it's obvious someone didn't check anything before signing a contact and now are crying about it. But honestly, who thinks to ask if your local sports teams are carried if you don't come to these boards? Much like The Krell's response.
I say it's a consequence of being the only one not carrying those RSN's that Dish has to make allowences for someone who finds that out the first day of service. Dish has made their decision not to carry those RSN's, many actually understand and agree, but that to me means Dish (Or in this case the Phone company) has to be abuntantly clear they don't carry your local sports. There was legislation in Louisanna that Direct TV had to make it clear in advertising they did not carry a local channel. Not so far feteched of an idea.

They can't add the YES Network or MSG though.... What will likely happen is they'll be told "we're continually working on bringing the channels and networks that our customers want, so we could add it soon!" in order to keep them hanging on.

So there is no chance the ERT could cancel it, I'm getting ready to go over to my parents, to see what we can do. And yes they should have done more due diligence in going over the guide but I guess they took the gentleman for his word, they are older and not at all tech savy. It is ridiculous that they are carrying no knicks or yankees games.....

Was this a matter of Dish not telling the truth after your parents asked about the channel or was this a matter of your parents just assuming they had the channel?

I wouldn't say no chance. If they don't seem to want to cancel, offer to pay the installation charge ($95?) And I would lean heavily on he found this on the very first day so obviously he likes sports so obviously was told Dish had it (If he was told that) .... I understand Scherrman's post, but I just don't think someone is going to even think to ask if they have the local teams. They might see if they have A&E or History or DIY.

They Asked the representative with the phone company who signed them up if they would get all the yankees and knicks games with the 250 package and the gentlemen said yes.

It sounds more like the phone co didn't do their homework. You may be able to force the phone co get your parents out of the contract.
Nah, more like "say anything to get the sale". No one should be surprised - in every company you'll find a rep who will do that. The rep could have asked other sales folks, they could have checked online, etc. The downside is, it could cause the sale to be lost. It's a lot easier to just say "yes !" and make it someone else's problem.

New problem now, as I just got over here, the internet which they signed up for 25mbs per second is not available after being promised that over the phone as well, now I know they were duped, will be calling the phone company now.

Like I said, if any of the companies you deal with give you a hard time, tell them you will be getting the state attorney general involved.

Good news, you probably should be able to get out of this because of bait and switch. Bad news, clearly there was an aggressive seller. He should be fired. I hope this all works out.

Though, out of curiosity, what would your parents do with a 25 Mbps internet connection? 10 Mbps would seem to be more than enough for anything they would likely do at their age... and that'd allow concurrent skyping, Netflix, and On Demand use.
