Pleased with Charter Internet

I've never came close to 250Gb,that includes d/loads,netflix,amazon,and now WWE network.Unless you constantly go over 250Gb I don't think they will pay much attention.

Yeah, I'm not saying to go torrent all day and try to download 1TB+ every month. Don't start running a web server on a residential account or racking up big downloads just because you can. I'm sure they do warn or disconnect the worst offenders.

I'm just saying use the internet how you want to. Maybe some ISPs are stricter than others but I think people tend to overreact to data caps. I feel comfortable using the services I want to without constantly worrying about a data cap. If I want to marathon House of Cards on Netflix or watch baseball on MLB.tv all day I do it. If I want to play a 50GB game I bought I download it. If Charter isn't bothering me about using too much data they won't be going after most average consumers.

Yep it's great. I get 90mbps bursts on computer.

Also I don't know if they can legally enforce caps when they do not provide a way to monitor ones usage.

They do enforce it, sort of. They'll let you slide, but you'll receive an email telling you that you've exceeded it to try to scare you a little. If you exceed it a every month, then they may take further steps.

Charter should up the caps imo.Time Warner did away with them,Comcast is 300GB.Here is an interesting list.It shows Charter anywhere from 100-500GB depending on the tier.

Reset your modems, Charter is in the process of upgrading Residential customers in many markets to 60mbps/4mbps standard.

In my area they have only upgraded business customers so far. Our office is getting the 60Mbps speeds but my house is still at 30Mbps even though it's in the same city. The mailer we got at the office specifically mentioned the upgrade was for business customers only at this time for our area. I have reset the modem at home a few times with no luck.

Well it looks like it's being expanded to residential now.

In other news, I got my bill for this month today. It said that my $29.99 promotional pricing that was set to expire next month will be extended for another 12 months. My parents have been getting deals like that on their account for a few years by calling in and asking. I didn't even have to ask. That pricing combined with the speed increase that should be coming soon make charter by far the best internet option in my area. I can get Uverse for about the same price but it would be for 6Mbps instead of 60Mbps.

Ya, I'm currently getting 60/4 for $29.99. After 12 months the reg price is supposed to be $44.99 which is still a good deal compared to other ISP's.

I don't think so. That might be true if you have a DOCIS 2.0 or older modem. I already owned a DOCIS 3.0 modem but when I moved last April they said I had to take one of theirs to get their highest speeds. It used to save me $5 or $6 per month in modem rental fees but they recently did away with that fee and started requiring new customers to use their modems. My parents are have been with them for over 10 years now and they are still using an owned DOCIS 3.0 modem.

The modem they gave me is the same one we have at our office on a business account. That account has been getting the 60Mbps speeds so the Motorola one they are giving out is definitely compatible with those speeds.

When Charter launched here they only offered docsis 3.0 modems.They are slowly upgrading the lines,but we still have a plethora of analog channels.So I don't look for 60MB,or HD anytime real soon.

My Cisco DPC3008 8x4 channel DOCSIS 3.0 can provide a connection slightly over 300mbps/100mbps.

I knew they could do 100MB down but no idea they were capable of 300MB down.

They gave me a Motorola Sb5101, which is Docsis 2.0 and only 30mb maximum. Not that I get that anymore like I used to, as the last few months it varies anywhere from 17/3 to 26/3. Right now it's at 17/3

My two year contract expires next month, so I'll wait until then and use that as one of my bargaining points to get the price kept down for another 2 years if possible. If they go for it again, it'll be great.

Charter never was supposed to allow plans over 15mbps on DOCSIS 2.0 modems.

The issue these days is to be sure you get a 8x4 DS3 and not a 4x4 DS3 modem.

Same here and my upload averages 4.4. Just up the road from you, maybe 20 miles.

I have Charter internet-only, and have been on contract 3 times in a row. The last contract for two years I was paying $34.99 a month 30/3 speeds (I own my modem). My contract just expired, and the price jumped up to $54.99.

I contacted them via Chat, and asked if I could go back on contract to lower the bill, hoping they'd go down at least $15 or so. No dice, the chat guy said he can't do that "there's no current promotions", and I'd have to call them on the phone to talk about it.

So, I called them on the phone, got either a Indian or Filapina woman, and asked her the same thing. No go there either, "there's no current promotions". Then she asked if I wanted to cancel service, but I'm not ready to push that because they might call my bluff and I can't afford to lose service at this time due to work. I have no other options for internet where I live that even comes close to Charters price and speed for as much as you get with them.

So, it was a nice ride, but it appears to have ended for now.

I'm going to cancel my TDS Telecom POTS phone, and go with Ooma, that will be a cost savings of about $34 a month, so that will make up for Charters price jump and then some. Ooma can't port my number where I live, so I'll have to lose the number I've had since 1989. That sucks a little, but we'll get over it quickly.
