Hi - I was wondering if the MT2 off-air tuner is very popular - is Dish shipping a lot of these. Was thinking of adding one to the set up but if they're being phased out, may reconsider....

Thanks!

Can't imagine why they would phase them out. I suspect they are very popular. We certainly see posts here about them.

There has been absolutely no hint of them being phased out. And even if they were.............................

This is not a very popular item, due to the fact that most customers receive local channels in HD in their DMA, and alot of customers do not have a proper OTA antenna and are too cheap to spend any money out of pocket.

I sell more of these to satelliteguys members than any other group of customers, as they see the value in this product.

Claude, I'd like to be able to say I'm surprised at what you are seeing, but I can't. I've got a number of friends with Dish and I'm the only one using OTA at all, even though you can get at least 2 of the major broadcast networks, and usually 3 or more with nothing more than a set of indoor glorified rabbit ears.

Some people just don't know what it does... Record 4 shows in HD at one time and then watch 2 different pre-recorded shows in separate rooms from the same box!? I had to prove it to a friend that it could really do this as he didn't believe me.

Or in some cases like mine, a complete second DMA, and even parts of a third. Important at my Ct home because the Saturday Fox baseball it a toss up between seeing the Red Sox or Yankees on the Ct Fox channel. It was the Yankees/Mets instead of the Red Sox/Cubs. So I watched it on the Springfield Mass Fox channel.
Throw in all the subchannels and the OTA DVR service is a great value. (I also can partly get Providence RI)

Maybe DISH should of included the ota tuner in the 722k from the start and added ota antenna to your install, and then everyone would of known of the ability to record 4 shows at a time.

Not surprised either. I've seen reports of OTA viewership in the 10-15% range. The vast majority of people still associate antennas with "snowy" pictures on TV. People tend to think visitors to this site are "the average Joe", but they're not !

Dish included an OTA tuner in the 622 and 722 and then do you recall them doing a survey regarding OTA viewing ? Not long after, the 722k was released WITHOUT the OTA tuner. Put 2 and 2 together to figure out why....

For those without a clue: Most people were NOT using an antenna, therefore Dish was putting money down the drain including this piece of hardware that was sitting idle !

That's when well deserved Kudos for SatelliteGuys and Scott G. are in order. If it wasn't for this place I would not know alot of things about Dish Network receivers ect.

I also have to agree with MikeD,it makes no sense to lease a HDDVR without including all the bells and whistles that make it one of the best receivers in the satellite industry.

I also believe this is what makes the 622 and 722 more popular because it has the OTA tuner built in.

The thought of having to purchase something for a receiver you are leasing is an obstacle alot of Dish Network subscribers will not make simply because to them it makes no sense to buy something for a receiver Dish Network wants to lease.

But now that the subchannels are available Over The Air maybe we wouldn't have so many when is Dish Network going to add these channels on satellite threads if Dish Network would have included the tuner(s) in the 722k?.

Why do you say the 622 and 722 are more popular ? Dish REMOVED the OTA module from their newer receivers (722k, 922, 222k) for a reason. Some might like to say it's because Dish is cheap, but my money says it's because Dish knows the OTA simply wasn't being used by most.

I guess it really doesn't matter much now anyways does it? because that's the way the 722k,922,222k are designed now.I just believe that's a prime example of how Dish Network can take one step forward in design while taking two steps backwards at the same time when it comes to making products that are consumer friendly. But what do I know I'm only a consumer, not a suit.;)
