Hi guys. My hobby are old set top box.
I ve a question about old box, Voom Box motorola.
Are there different models of voom box?is there only voom box dsr-550?

My father used to own two of them. They were good while the satellite service lasted. They made for good OTA tuners after its demise, but they were never able download guide data or scan in additional channels. They're only good for the area they're mapped to for OTA purposes. I loved the Voom satellite service, but unfortunately, it was too much ahead of its time. I'd really love to have Monsters HD back again.

As for your question about other models available, my understanding is that they only had one model during their short existence.

A box for the Voom HD Networks service would be of no use in Italy. The satellite service was discontinued in the Spring of 2005 and the OTA tuners don't work outside of a handful of countries that use ATSC broadcast TV. There is a list of conditions that must be met for the OTA tuners to be activated as detailed in post #3 of this thread:

Outside the US, Voom content was delivered through other carriers.

Voom 8PSK Turbo encoding (like DISH), MPEG2 and a different error correction scheme from DISH Network along with Digicipher II security.

I've never known of a mod to change them. They've kind of fallen into obscurity now. After the service went down, they were only useful for OTA reception. As better tuners came available at cheaper prices, they were most likely ditched to eBay or disposed of. They're really just a relic of the past now since the hardware and software are quite old in regards to today's modern technology. The OTA tuning wasn't all that great from what I recall. A cheap Chinese made tuner ($30 range) from Amazon would likely yield better results nowadays. They were far ahead of the competition in trying to make HD more mainstream.
