I just love the Enigma2 stb's. You have so much versatility. Great for programmers.

So, they took away WPT recently on satellite. I was told it can be streamed on IP. The problem is you cannot easily record those. I like building up hours and watching on my free time. Well, i figured out how to stream it and write it to a .ts (transport stream) file. The same format the satellite receiver expects.

I already have another Windows program i wrote years back that knows what channel im tuned to on my satellite. I used it to do various things, such as popup message boxes of information i need or detect i was on a music channel and automatically fetch the song playing and display it on the satellite receiver. So, what i wanted to do was easy for this program.

I created a boutique (favorite) channel on my STB. It is a random music or tv service that i never tune too. I renamed it to "WPT stream". When i turn to that channel, my program detects it and launches the stream to create the .ts file. The file is streamed directly to my internal hard-drive on the satellite receiver. - The folder location of my records. The program also creates the appropriate .meta file the enigma2 STB looks at to give file information. I then send a message to the STB receiver telling the watcher (me) that the file is ready. When i click on the channel, it takes about 5 seconds before i get the confirmation its ready.

I then click my movie list button on my STB and the first entry is my "WPT" entry with the current datetime stamp. I click it and i can start watching WPT directly from my satellite receiver. Because its a .ts stream, I am watching it and the file is building/streaming at the same time i watch it. I can pause it, stop watching and come back later and continue.

The result, is its no different then when i watched it directly on satellite. Basically seamless. I did the same thing for a second IP channel i like to watch.
