Problem with the HD box

Hey, so recently I got a new TV and it has HD. So today I went to my Cablevision store and I got myself the HD box(Explorer 4200HD). Now I installed it, but I have a problem with it, when I try to switch channels with the remote it takes it a couple of seconds to register the command and switch. And after a few minutes the remote stops working all together. And sometimes I click to switch a channel and then it keeps switching channels non stop and I have to turn off the box. So what's going on here? Did I get a faulty box/remote or did I set it up wrong?
 
Take the remote and the box back and get a new pair.
Make sure it's new and not refurbished.
