Proper way to shutdown HR54-500 Genie

... That's NOT going to work !The HR54 has an internal power inserter that runs the LNB on the dish. The cable running from there (the room it's originally in) to the splitter has a designated port that passes power through the splitter to the LNB ... If the Genie was an HR44 then there would be a black box with a green light on it
and two cables ("power to SWM" and "signal to IRD") so you could disconnect the cable from that to the box and swap any of them all around but that's NOT possible using an HR54 .... For purposes of illustration we'll assume you have a 4-way splitter. There will be one single cable on one side that goes to the dish and four on the other side coming from the rooms. Holding the splitter with the single side pointing up, the only power-passing port is the bottom one on the left (the inside of it will be red, unlike the others).
Here's what you need to do:
Swap the Genie/mini locations (this will trigger a 775 error) and power them up.
Disconnect ALL of the cables from the splitter (only those coming from the rooms ) and find the one with 20 volts DC on it.
Connect THAT cable to the splitter at the power passing port, then reconnect all remaining cables (in any order) to the splitter.

I dis agree.
No need to go to all that trouble ...
There has been no information given yet that the sub has other recvrs, if so, which ones, that would be important ...
The HR54 does have a internal PI, great ...
Great way to add confusion to most systems actually.
If the sub has only the HR54, its fine to just move it to another room that is connected to the system.
If the sub does have another recvr and its a SWM system, the PI that would be in the system already, would NOT hurt the system at all.
Its been documented that the internal is not active if theres already a PI in the system.
... Given the OP was speaking only of minies and a Genie (with, as you pointed out, no mention of any other RXs or a PI), the assumption that simply swapping their rooms would work presumes there's already another PI on the net driving the LNB....You know what happens when one presumes ...
