No we have never used anythinig by Paypal for credit card processing.
I know some people do not use Paypal and don't have an account, but the nice part is you don't need one.
When you get to the Paypal screen you will see Dont have a Paypal account, select that and fill out all the information. Once your payment has gone through it will ask you if you want to sign up for an account, just say NO and you paid without being a paypal member.
