I have a BEV 5200 (dual tuner PVR). The PVR is acting up with some problems:
- live TV seems to work fine, but you can't pause or back-up the show
- the recordings are very choppy and don't record the whole show

Current software version is 131.

I believe that there is a problem with the hard-drive. Questions:
1) can I replace the hard-drive with a common computer drive?
2) can I purchase a hard-drive from any BEV unit and replace it? Or is there somewhere that I can buy genuine BEV spare parts?
3) can anyone recommend a repair shop that can do it for me? I am in Montreal area but can ship whereever.

Thanks.

hab,

You can replace the hard drive but it has to be the exact same model right down to the version and revision.

Here is a list of the 9200 diagnostics. The 5200 is pretty much a non-HD 9200.

Memory dump, Hard drive formatting and diagnostics shortcuts
This has been requested many times. Here is the list of shortcuts for the 5X00 and 9200 series receivers.

Accessing the memory dump screen:
Press Menu, 6 (System Setup), 3 (Diagnostics).
Within 5 seconds press Info, Browse, Theme.

Format HDD:
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Press Play, Play, Recall and it will reformat the drive. Sometimes it can take multiple attempts to get the notification message up.

Reinitializing HDD:
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Press Stop.
A screen will appear telling you that you have re initilized the hard drive.
Then just hold the power button on the receiver until the red record light illuminates.

Clearing NVRAM:
This will erase all the timers passwords etc..
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Press Stop then TV/Video.
A different screen will pop up telling you that you have erased the NVram.
Then just hold the power button on the receiver until the red record light illuminates.

HDD Diagnostic tests:

Short Test:
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Press Pause, 1

Long Test:
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Press Pause, 2

DST Test including Transfer Rate:
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.
Press Pause, 3

FET test:
You should be at the Memory Dump screen.

Kryspy,
THanks for the post. I tried the "HDD Short diagnostic" It ran for about 1 minute and then displayed "HR_READ_ERROR". I guess I need a new drive.

The problem now is the two red record lights flash simulltaneously and the unit is completely jammed. It won't respond to anything, and now I can't even watch live TV anymore. It almost as if it didn't know the HD wasn't working, and now that it ran a dianostic it decided to shut down.

Looks like I need to get moving on the new drive....
