Question about DVR upgrade

I am looking to upgrade to a HD DVR. My question is I live near syracuse ny and who knows when we will have HD locals. Will the new HDdvr still be able to pick up my locals with the old 72.5 dish and the new dish? I don't want to lose my locals and have to wait for syracuse to get lit up in hd. Right now i have the samsung hd receiver and a 3lnb +1 extra dish for the 72.5. Also is it possible to still use the 3 lnb dish with a new HDDVR until my syracuse locals get lit up?


Any thoughts will be helpful thanks.

All DirecTV receivers since the launch of locals on 72.5 can pick them up. So yes, the new HDDVR will tune to your locals just fine.

You will need the 5 LNB dish for the new HDDVR to pick up the new HD channels. You'll also get a new multiswitch needed to work with the new sats. And right on that multiswitch is an input for your 72.5 dish. So you'll be all set.
