Question about the legality/morality/ethics of "moving"

Iceberg:

Where do you find this kind of info?

I live in the Dallas locals market, and would like to receive 'Houston' or 'San Antonio' locals. I have a 121 SuperDish currently. Is this feasible?

http://ekb.dbstalk.com/hdlocal.htm

no HD on 121
All 3 cities (Hou, Dal, SA) on 110 spotbeams. So highly unlikely you can get the other city. According to www.dishchannelchart.com, San Antonio is on 110 TP25, Houston is on 110 TP4 and Dallas is on 110 TP31

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. Did not realize lack of HD.

Assuming that I have OTA for the DFW HD-locals, can I atleast get the 110 SD locals for Hou or SA?

Is my satellite company being "ethical" when they charge me the same price for service and not provide me RSN (Philly Market) compared to the guy across the river who gets three! I know the RSN is a Comcast issue but I don't see them offering me a discount either.

All you pontificators ponder this.

If you have EVER done a rolling stop at a stop sign, run through a yellow light, run a red light, or sped intentionally then you should close your pie holes.

Those actions actually endangered human life. Not only your own and your passengers, but others on the road as well.

You may call 'moving' excuses as just 'justifying bad behavior' or lying, but what you have done with any of the above acts is 1000 fold worse than 'moving' to watch a TV show and YOU have endangered lives. Close your pie holes unless you can say honestly that you have never done any of the above.

People who 'move' are doing something with no potential or actual victims. It is a victimless 'crime'.

Also, all of the holyier than thou naysayers should delete any emails or files from their computers that have a video clip from TV or have a soundtrack playing in the background as you are screwing the copyright holders out of money every time you watch or listen to it.

This includes jokes sent to you from friends, etc. When you verify you haven't endangered someone's life with your intentional actions and don't have copyrighted stuff on your computer, then you have absolutely NO right to speak on the subject of this thread.

Have you EVER made a copy on your copier of something that you did not produce?
You will burn in hell when you meet your maker. :p

Except if your reason for moving to to get around paying for a sport subscription package to watch a team you normally wouldn't get, then your are flat out stealing.

If you have EVER done a rolling stop at a stop sign,

Not that I recall. Full and complete is what I was taught.

run through a yellow light,

Yes but this is perfectly legal.

run a red light,

No.

or sped intentionally

Only enroute to the hospital. Under the law, my action was excusable.

then you should close your pie holes.

Those actions actually endangered human life.

Not necessarily.

Not only your own and your passengers, but others on the road as well.

This is your assumption.

You may call 'moving' excuses as just 'justifying bad behavior' or lying, but what you have done with any of the above acts is 1000 fold worse than 'moving' to watch a TV show and YOU have endangered lives. Close your pie holes unless you can say honestly that you have never done any of the above.

Repeating yourself does not make your argument any stronger.

False. You are infringing upon the copyright of the content owner.

Also, all of the holyier than thou naysayers should delete any emails or files from their computers that have a video clip from TV or have a soundtrack playing in the background as you are screwing the copyright holders out of money every time you watch or listen to it.

You clearly don't understand the basics of copyright law such as the concept of "fair use."

This includes jokes sent to you from friends, etc. When you verify you haven't endangered someone's life with your intentional actions and don't have copyrighted stuff on your computer, then you have absolutely NO right to speak on the subject of this thread.

Stop being such a drama queen. We get the point.

Have you EVER made a copy on your copier of something that you did not produce?

Many, many times. Is there a point here?

You will burn in hell when you meet your maker.

Actually, that is impossible if you think about it. Perhaps afterward?
:p

So there!

Except if your reason for moving to to get around paying for a sport subscription package to watch a team you normally wouldn't get, then your are flat out stealing.
hmmmmm.. So if you move to see a team you normally wouldn't get, then you now get it. And you pay the appropriate sport subscription fee to dish to see that sub. Dish sees you are watching team XYZ. They send the royalty money to that team.

So then the team you are actually watching is getting the royalties from Dish that you are paying to dish to watch that team.

Nobody screwed.

Yes that sums it up and I think you win for BEST POST OF THE DAY!:D :D :up :up :up

I'm late here in this game, but.....

For Dish it is not illegal if Dish knows for a fact that the service address is wrong.

Morally its a relative personal dilemma.

Ethically- moving is a great way of getting back at the Ethics of CON-gress in receiving large sums of money by broadcasters so they can legislate in favor of them.

Whatever happened to smaller government? Get the Gov'm out of our lives?
Its all hogwash for those reptiles in CON-gress to get elected so they CAN control your lives.

This has been discussed to death before. In my view it is lying and lying is unethical. But many ratioanlize it away and I probably do worse things.

I can see why you would be concerned with Ethics my friend, but it is better to do onto others--what has been done onto you :D

You are all unethical and immoral bastards!

How dare you suggest that Ze NAB could be wrong on such an issue. Think of all the local advertisers that would absolutely DIE if they weren't afford their God-given right to whore their wares to the LOCAL audience. What would the world be if a decent, blue-collar, Des Moines stiff was to watch Cleveland channels? Do you think the world is a better place because you can buy a copy of the Albuquerque Journal in Toledo? Or the New York Times in Tucson? Don't be silly. The freedom to press outside the local market is an antiquated idea, propogated by men who believed that freedom was a human right. Such nonsense is old thinking, and we shall have none of that.

With Ze NAB, you would have NO idea what was really going on in your own happy corner of the world. You wouldn't have cookie-cutter radio stations that play the same shnite over and over again, but that is another story for another day. You NEED your own local channels to function in this information superhighway. Without them, you mind will cease to function according to our desires.

To those of you who 'move' to satisfy your sinful inner passion, I say, piss on you! Ze NAB is here to dictate what you should and should not watch, because you DO NOT know any better. The goal of world socialism is all about CONTROLLING the flow of information. And the control of information starts with Ze NAB. Now, take your intellectual prostitution and turn it in for a complimentary copy of The Little Red Book.

You live in Syracuse? You don't need to know what is going on in Nashville unless WE tell you you need to know what is going on in Nashville. Don't like the fact that you live in Baltimore but can't watch DC TV? Not our problem. We are Ze NAB. And without your total allegiance to our advertiser-based funding model, we cannot survive. To not survive would encourage free speech. We do not milk the federal government for billions of dollars in free spectrum to promote such foolish ideas.

Dismissed!

And for something tangible to add to this discussion...

D* accused me of providing false information when I tried to activate a second account last month. Our physical address is a non-USPS registered address, because we don't have mail service to the home. I hung up and used my "A-List" number and got a person who didn't sound like they'd just had a scalding hot coffee enema.

She was a nice lady. When she asked me if the residence was a house or apartment, I told her, "it's a vacant 40-acre parcel where people dump their trash at odd hours of the night. I've found that screwing the dish mount into an avocado green Westinghouse refrigerator can make a real impression on the ladies, though. And it's considered a white area for the purposes of DMA. If you're not bothered by the occasional corpse, it's really a nice set-up!"

She activated the account without even asking for verification of the address. E* had wanted a utility bill three years ago to confirm that this house even existed.

Is it illegal?
Yes. If this was an issue subject to A.R.S., it would be a Class 2 felony. It's probably a federal crime under copyrights at the very least.

Is it immoral?
Why are you paying for a service that is free if you use a different type of antenna? You're getting charged for something that is free to begin with. Is the NAB reimbursing the federal government for all those Phoenix DMA subscribers who are paying for spectrum the broadcasters get for free? Methinks not!

Do I care?
Hell no. I am not your keeper, nor do I wipe your ass. You can wipe your own ass, just like you can make adult decisions without my interference. If you're willing to risk the consequences, move to your heart's content! Until I feel that my safety is threatened because of your doings, there's no problem.

Does this mean I should move out of the KOA campgrounds and not get my locals in HD anymore ? I feel so ashamed !

Well, I will feel ashamed later if thats okay with you, cause now I get NASCAR on FOX in HD, Wheel, Jeopardy, American Idol in HD, I can't get them via OTA because our little podunk stations can't afford the equipment. When they do, I will be happy to watch them ! I have 8 HDTV's, thats including the 2 for the RV so if I can get it in HD, I want it, it's not my fault the little stations can't supply it. If it wasn't for congress being in the broadcasters pockets, this issue wouldn't even exist.

Supply and demand. NAB demands protectionist policies, Congress supplies it. 20+ million satellite subscribers obviously don't have the power to effect the outcome, so the sharper ones figure out ways to work the system to their advantage.

Yeah, it's blah blah blah blah. But it illustrates two valid points. The NAB owns Congress, because the broadcasters can feed a bazillion dollars into the necessary mechanisms to propogate successful re-election campaigns (cough cough big pharma cough cough). Supply and demand. Congress wants to get re-elected, NAB has money and means to effect the result, and payback is sure a bitch for the little guy. It also illustrates the fact that the NAB continues to argue for free spectrum based on the need for 'public service, particularly in times of emergency.' What public service? What do you turn on when the local power plant explodes? The fact is, in an emergency situation where people are forced to become mobile, radio is the key. And there are just a few more battery-powered radios than televisions. Give the radio carriers the public service exemption and let's be fair about this.

We had this little incident known as the Rodeo-Chediski fire in 2002. Big fire, half a million acres, started by a down-on-his-luck Apache firefighter who wanted to make a days' pay, and a lost hiker who started a signal fire. Damned if those 46" TV's don't work great on batteries, and grandma would you please keep the aerial pointed in the right direction while we're being evacuated, PLEASE!

I have absolutely no problem with moving. I applaud it. I've hated the NAB since the days of SHVA. Luckily, I live in a DMA large enough to get all the good stuff early on. Podunk John who can't afford the broadcast equipment I have nothing but sympathy for. Why isn't the NAB using its muscle to help those who are least able to make the transition? Does anybody have any idea how much we are going to spend on digital set-top boxes in 2009, but HDTV should be a priviledge for those chosen markets?

It's not a hot-button issues for Congress. So long as your provider is forced to carry C-SPAN, why should they even care about broadcaster issues. Just keep Janet Jackson's tits in her shirt and everything is fine.

Yeah.

My reply

Bottom Line for me if the law is wrong then I will not accept it. It makes no sense not to allow us to pay for channels we want. That is Un-American. Our fore fathers wouldn't sit back and let King George lay down the law. They were rebels and thought for themselves. The Government should act in the interest of the people not special interest groups and lobbyist. This law is wrong in every sense of the word and I will not accept it.

I agree with you! :) But we need to fight the FCC. I know there's a saying "You can't fight city hall".
