Question on DTV Stock

Can someone educate me as to how the announcement I pulled off of Reuters below may affect DTV stock.

Satellite television provider DirecTV Inc. said it may take up to $1.6 billion in charges to write down the value of satellites it would use for broadcasting instead of high-speed data services.

That is hard to say definitively. It depends on how investors taker the news. They may see itasa failure or they may be glad DTV is moving on.
