Quetzsat 1 Successfully Launched!

Unbelievable. Reminds me of the time we suffered a failure at Mars because somebody was using English instead of metric units for the probe altitude.

This is what happens when the old engineers that slogged thru the calculations and then threw in a hefty safety margin retire. The new guys delight in optimizing with their new super computers and forget that that big fat safey factors cover a lot of sins.

Wow!

After all these years, someone can still make a big mistake. Not enough time was provided for a gyroscope to stabilize during the burn cycle.

The hold on Proton launches has been lifted and we can still expect to see Quetzsat 1 launched this fall.

ILS Breeze Failure Press Report

Well that's good news. And should stop the talk of leaving the ISS unmanned.

Might want to fix that link.

Anik is now showing the launch as September 30th. There is another Proton launch scheduled for September 14th so it won't be the first launch after the failure.
