R.I.P. Don Coryell

Don Coryell passed away yesterday at 85. Mentor of Joe Gibbs and John Madden, he was a coaching legend in San Diego where I grew up. His San Diego State teams were champions in their class, and his NFL teams (the Cardiac Cardinals and the pass-happy Chargers) were the most exciting teams in the league, although they could never muster enough defense to make the Super Bowl.

those charger teams with dan fouts, wes chandler, kellen winslow, et al were among the best to never win the super bowl. i was stationed in san diego those 2 seasons and that team was great.
