Hi everyone!

We've had our DirecTV dish 10 years now aimed at the same point in the sky and never had a problem until last week. We noticed a few channels were breaking up (as they do in a snowstorm or rainstorm), but all the others coming in loud and clear. Well this week there are even more channels breaking up, but still most of the channels come in fine.

Signal strength is in the low 30s, but as I said, most channels still work fine.

What could the problem possibly be?

Thanks for your help!!!

After 10 years corrosion in the fittings would be the first suspect. An LNB failing would be my next suspect and rotten wood causing the dish to move would be my third guess. Good luck may it be a minor problem.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I'll report back after checking on the things mentioned.
The dish is mounted in a brick fireplace and hasn't budged as far as I can tell.
There is only one connection outdoors, and a couple indoors.

By the way, is there an easy way to check the entire length of cable running to the dish, without having to individually inspect each connection point?

And is there a way to diagnose the LNB?

Thanks again!

Hi again everyone!

I had some satellite guys go up on the roof and check it out. The dish was rock solid and no evidence of issues with the LNB. He did try to move it, and then pushed some cables out of the way, but that was it.

Well, the channels are back up and working again after that!

So what do you think happened??

Well this guy thought that a tree might be blocking the right side of the dish reception. The affected channels are mostly in the 260-280 range, and he claims that their satellite is off to the right in the sky.

We remembered we didn't have the problem in the winter months (when no leaves on the tree). So do you think that could be it?
