OK, now I have a question - exactly what purpose does the red button, that is underneath the PLAY button & above the POSITION button, on the right side of the 721 remote do?

When I press it, it does PIP, but then when cycle through the PIP sizes, it leaves a little TV logo in the corner - remote manual just says "for future use".

I was comparing the 721 remote to the new 6.2 DVR remote E* just came out with & it does not have this one button on it.

It does what the normal PIP button does on the 522/625 DVRs when in single mode - leaves the 2nd tuner running in background so you can PIP again, swap, rewind, etc. They decided to put the icon there so you'd remember it is running.

The default 721 PIP behavior shuts down the 2nd tuner when you close the PIP window. On the 721 the 2nd tuner is running only when you are recording in background or have a PIP session open, on the 522/625 they are both running all the time.

IMHO they should have just reprogrammed the PIP and left this button for "future use".

If you're an NFL junkie like me and hate to watch commercials, the red button is great.

I press the red button until the TV logo appears, start watching one game, pause it, SWAP to the other game, watch it for 10-15 minutes, pause it, SWAP back to the first game, unpause it and watch for awhile (skipping through commercials) until it is "live", pause it, SWAP back to the other game, etc.

Works great, as long as you can remember what was happening in the game when you last left it.

Originally the red button was going to be for "internet use".
At that time it would send you to the Dish Home channel, which was very annoying as it was easy to to accidently hit the button and there was already a Dish Home button on the opposite side of the remote.
Dish dropped that idea and now uses for PiP purposes, that is the new "future use".
