First, English not being my first language, I hope this can be easily understandable. First post here and need some info. My equipment, Dish 500 at 110° & 119° and a second dish at 61.5° for HD content. I’m in upper state N.Y. Few days ago, got a call from a Dishnetwork C.S. saying that I need to transfer my 61.5° to the 129° satellite position otherwise I would lose some programming content. They wanted to send an installer to make the appropriate changes. Not often being home and just about ready to move to Florida for the winter season, I told him that I will be in touch with them when I’m back from Florida. Yesterday got a hold of my local Dishnetwork installer and told him about the call from Dish. He said that actually I should get a Dish 1000.4 aimed at 61.5, 72.7 and 77° satellite. Never got an answer from him as to why the move from 61.5 to 129 as per Dishnetwork request. Two questions: first, if I do go his way (1000.4 dish), I’m still pointing at the 61.5 sat., might as well stay as it is right now with dish 500 and second dish at 61.5. Second questions, is Dishnetwork moving their HD content to the 129 sat and that’s why they wanted me to switch over. Thanks for the help. Andy

Andy,

Your English is better than most.

With your current 110/119.61.5 there are a bunch of HD channels that you are not receiving... BBCA in HD comes to mind.

Your notion that "61.5, 72.7 and 77" means that you are still pointing at 61.5 and therefore there is no need to change is mistaken.

NO, they are moving the HD off of 61.5 to 72.7 so depending on which sat your locals are on you either need an EA dish (1000.4) for 61.5,72.7 & 77. or a WA dish (1000.2) 110, 119 & 129.

You need to to stay on western arc if you are subscribed to latino programming which Is the 1000.2 dish currently 110 119 129 Or they will just repoint the wing dish To 129. You will not receive Latino programing off eastern arc

Thanks SaltiDaw and n0qcu. You are right; I was looking at the 72.7° sat. Channels listing and I’m missing roughly 15-20 HD. Have them right now but SD only. Some of them are really worth the changeover. I will switch over to the eastern arc (61.5, 72.7 and 77°) as soon as possible. More questions come to mind. In the menu (installation/point dish/dish system), I don’t see a 1000.4 setup. My local installer told me that I just turn off both receiver (722) and unplug the unit; wait 20-30 minutes, restart and the 1000.4 should come up. Tried that but didn’t get the 1000.4 in dish system. Can I use my dish 500 (110 & 119) and repoint !! them at 72.7 and 77° and keep my wing dish at 61.5° Do I have to call Dishnetwork to get them to download some kind of software to get azimuth, elevation and skew for the 72. & 77 sat. Thanks again for the help.

It is my understanding that the 1009.4 will never come up as a configuration on the dish screen. Another poster said that he/she thought this was the case because Dish feels that installing a 1000/4 antenna is a job for a pro with a Sat meter. I don't know if this is true.

Hi Andreny and the group, First to answer your question on not seeing the dish 1000.4, I don't think you will see it listed unless your receiver is hooked up to a dish 1000.4.

Regarding finding the azimuth and elevation you could use dishpointer.com and enter your address then get the azimuth/elevation for each of the E.A. satellites (61.5, 72.7, 77west).

Regarding using a dish 500 on E.A. yes it can be done; however, you will loose some signal quality because the dish 500 was designed to be used on two satellites that are 9 degrees apart (110/119W) To use it on E.A. you would have to split the difference between 61.5 and 72.7 (11.7 degrees apart)

To set up the dish 500 on E.A. you would take the dish that is on 110/119 and re-skew and re-point to 61.5/72.7 and then re-point the dish that is on 61.5 to 77W.

Hope this helps, DC

72.7 & 77 are too close together to use with that dish 500. I'm not sure you can even see 77 in western NY (i have no problem finding 72.7 or 82, but nothing in between). To find the 1000.4 numbers, check out dishpointer.com. Satellite dish look angle pointer calculator lets you calculate them for more arbitrary combinations.

Many thanks for all the info. and suggestions from all of you. Tried to go the easy way this afternoon and re-pointed my wing dish from 61.5 to 129°. Got the az., elev., and skew from web site refereed by all of you. I had no problem hitting the 72.7 then 110 and 119 (all with the respective az and Elev ) on my way to 129 but never got the 129 sat. Is there such a bird LOL.... Finally gave up with a frozen “derrière” and fingers. What kind of signal strength should I get from 129 if I ever find it !!!!! Right now 61.5, 110 & 119 have signal strength around 65-70. A bit warmer next week, I will try delta_charlie suggestion and use my Dish 500 (110/119) and re-point it to 61.5/72.7 and the wing dish at 77°. Thanks again to all of you. Keep you posted next week. Andy
