Hi!

I have question , I would like to replace my bad hughes receiver by buying
a used directtv receiver from Ebay , my card is P4 if I replace a receiver
from somebody .Will my card will work on the replacement? because I
have replaced it with my old RCA receiver but the message shown up
"I get a wrong card".Please help.Thanks.

You can buy a D10 from valueelectronics for 50 bucks iirc for forum members.

(rest of comment removed because it was in error.)

Thanks for your advice.

I am a directtv customer for 3 years , if they change the card from P4 to P5, I am really don't why they don't let me know , I open the slot card and I
still see the P4 card is in there beside I saw somebody on Ebay sell their
receiver after a year contract ended with P4 card picture.Directtv sell
they receiver too expensive and force me to redo for one more year contract.

P4 cards are still supported and usable, it is the P3 that is no longer supported and was removed from the data stream. If you get a used receiver off eBay call D* and tell them you want to marry the card from your bad receiver to the new receiver (trust me, as long as the card is not damaged it will work, we do it every day when we have to replace receivers on service calls). Only thing is that the P4 card must have at some point been active on YOUR account, not someone else's.

The series card can be ID'd by the design on the front/top. I am sure the newest series has metallic platinum edges and blue center field with DirecTV Access Card in the blue field.

Yes, that describves the new ones fine (I have 3 of them), I think I've seen plain white ones too, not sure what those were maybe test card, or illegal *shrug*.
