Replacement SIM, Orby DVR

I’m still wanting to watch the recordings I got through Orby Satellite, and then antenna programs *since*
But I just broke off the back end of my SIM card and it’s not working. Any ideas on a new one?

THIS. Your recordings and such are gone, unless you have a razor blade, microscope, and a way of repairing your sim card. I've done that in the past for another company, though I'm a trained electronics tech with 50 years of experience. IF you know somebody with real good skills of soldering and such, you MAY be able to repair it, depending on how it broke.

With Orby out of business they won't be of any help. Probably a long shot but you may be able to remove the drive from the receiver and use some form of software on a pc to extract the recordings. I don't have the DVR model myself so can't say for sure.

I already repurposed the 500 gb HDD for one of my work laptops from the DVR receiver. I experimented some with it but finally moved on. Not hopeful of any other use for the box. I couldn't get past the setup wizard. I think mine was an open box Best Buy return.

Anyone else with a previously activated DVR model still able to view recordings or create new ones?

I was still able to view the recordings for the wife, last week. Some of the shows she didn't get to see before I pulled the receivers out.

It’s worth a shot. Go on eBay and buy a new Orby receiver with a virgin card.

Take the virgin card and put it in your receiver, and see if it works.

Although I never had Orby, I would imagine your probably getting an error message to insert your card. A virgin card would likely work, as it would stop the error message, and I don’t think Orby was never advanced enough to tie their DVR service to a subscription.

If you couldn’t find an Orby card, thinking out loud, I believe Orby did use nagravision. I would cut down a dish card and try that if you had one laying around. Doubt it would work, but worth a try.

Agreed. The prices on eBay are still crazy high. More than what the receivers where selling for a year ago when Best Buy was having their flash sales

Have you tried running your DVR without the SIM card installed? My new-in-the-box inactivated ORBY TV DVR receiver bounced to life for the first time a few weeks ago, after I was able to get past the setup screen wizard. My DVR is functioning on both OTA satellite and my local broadcast TV channels. I removed the SIM card, and it did not make a difference. I also put in a different SIM card. Other than reading the new serial number, it did not change the way the receiver worked for me. I don’t know what happens when using formerly activated ORBY TV receivers.

You will need a working satellite feed from 116.8W to your inactivated ORBY TV receiver. Then the receiver sails through the setup wizard, performing some kind of scan at step seven, then the local broadcast channels get scanned, then the successful completion message!

Yes I can watch and record but not on satellite channel only local
