The long awaited Resident Evil 5 demo has been released on XBL (For Gold Members) and for PS3 members on February 2nd. Has anyone tried it?

I tried it for a few minutes, and maybe it was just unfamiliarity, but it seems like they're trying too much with this game and are taking the almost-perfect RE4 formula and messing it up. Perhaps I'm just too used to the ultra-tight responsiveness of the Wii Controls, but the controls seem too sluggish to where you have to "wait" for your reticule to aim at the wanted target. I do have to say though that the PQ of this game blows away that of RE4 (as it damn well should considering the hardware differences between PS3/360 and Wii.)

Also, the "live" inventory system where you have to swap stuff on the fly adds 1 one point of tension and 3 points of frustration. You can't deny that it makes it more tense and realistic, but those don't make the game more fun. The ability to be killed by 1 or 2 shots in Call of Duty would make it more realistic, but would kill the fun factor significantly. You can't throw hordes of baddies at us and expect us to be able to not get frustrated while we try to switch weapons in between them biting on our asses.

Additionally, the extra character seems more like a burden than an asset. Sure it adds the capability of co-op gameplay, but my wife isn't big on gorey games and I'm not always shot in the ass about playing with chatty tweens on XBL.

Finally, I realize that this is just a demo, but a LITTLE bit of background and story would have been nice. They literally say, "Pick a level" and throw you in to the game with no real guidance other than the typical button prompts (Press X to pick up bullets, RT to Uppercut, etc.)

Maybe I'm just jaded from RE4: Wii Edition (which is one of the greatest games of all time) or just didn't have enough time to play the demo more extensively.* I may update this later, but I was curious as to what other people felt about this highly anticipated sequel.

*Oh that reminds me of ANOTHER ultra-annoying part of the demo. When you die (which you will, believe me,) rather than asking you to restart the level, it goes through the whole obligatory advertisement of the full game and shoots you back to the title screen. Also, you may find that some of your control settings are changed back to default when you do this! I shouldn't have to wait this long to get back into the action.

I have a love/hate relationship with RE.

I own RE0, RE, RE2, RE3, & RE4 but have never finished any of them because I am too big of a wussy.

I played the RE5 demo and was surprised about how open the two areas were. Given my inability to finish any of the previous games, I think I will pass on RE5.

You owe it to yourself to play through 2 and 4. 0 and 1 are very hard (I'm assuming you have the GC remake), and 3 was more forgetful than the red-shirted guys on Star Trek. Code Veronica X was quite good as well.

For a true Survival Horror experience, I would recommend Silent Hill 1-3 (never played 4+, but apparently they were not as engrossing as 1-3), and if you can find it, Eternal Darkness. I'm playing ED now and it's definitely a trip, especially if you have a good A/V setup.

Resident Evil 5 demo was fantastic in my opinion, a definite must have for 09...

Eternal Darkness was awesome along with Resident Evil 4, I think those were the only two gamecube games that I really got into...

I played the demo and I was a bit disappointed in the controls. I loved the WII RE4 game. I also thought it was one of the best games of all time. The controls were a joy to use and it was easy to play. An instant classic in my mind. It pays to get the WII just for RE4. It is going to take a lot of getting use to.

The game looks amazing on the 360 hardware. Of the two locations you could play in, Shanty Town was a much better introduction. The first scenario was way too much too quickly!

I don't mind the partner so much, because she was such a better shot than me! LOL

I'm gonna pre-order this puppy as soon as I play the PS3 demo: gotta decide which box plays better.

Also, I gotta agree about Sanity's Requiem. One of my favorite GameCube titles, for sure!

PS3 Demo today.

Also they said that there is never any kind of run and gun in the full game, the controls don't allow it.

Guess I'll understand what that means when I play it (can you really not move and shoot at the same time... that's really stupid if so).

First impressions are everything, and the first impression of this game was very very bad. It's pretty, but if it had GRAW controls it would be fun. These controls kill it for me, are you kidding me.

I've been playing the demo a little more, and while I keep getting engrossed by the incredible scenery and graphic detail, the controls keep pulling me back from really enjoying this. Maybe I just need to play around with the control scheme more, maybe I'm just too used to RE4: Wii Edition as well as other, better controlling 3rd person games (Gears 1+2, Uncharted, etc.) It also doesn't help that the demo is very new player UNfriendly. Again, I understand this is just a demo, but you still need to throw in SOME guidance beyond just button pressing prompts for items and random events (like the gimmicky piggyback scenarios and "Use your sniper rifle to protect me while I go to another part of the stage that is bound to be swarmed by black baddies.")

It's too bad Capcom sacrificed playability for graphics with this game. This game would have been PERFECT for the Wii, especially with the control scheme that was MADE for a game like this. It's obvious that they wanted to up the difficulty with this version, and this could have been compensated by the Wii Remote scheme of point and shoot.

I'm heading out after work to pick up a copy of it from Gamestop (I've had it from Gamefly all this time.) Thing is the Gamestop around me that has it is so out of the way from me that I'm also bringing my wife and we're taking my grandmother out for dinner tonight along with it. Nothing like a game about going insane to bring you closer to your family.
