Retailer Chat Recap: April 14, 2010

The are pushing the PlatinumHD package again for $10 more a month...

Say it isn't so! Major dislike! Seriously, they already charge more due to the receiver increases and doing away with the phone/broadband connection credits. We saw a $7/month increase due to all of this. Another $10/month for Platinum HD? Hopefully, those with HD & Platinum will be grandfathered in. However, if they do this, then people may not choose E* from D* if they do another additional charge. I know someone who is considering switching from D* to E*, but she may not if they charge $10 for HD and $10 for Platinum HD again. When will this take place? Very disappointing, indeed...:(

I would rather bundle Epix with HBO for only 7 dollars more a month
then have to pay $10 for Platinum HD

Why would Epix be bundled with HBO? They are two separate companies and competitors. HBO would never allow it.

If you subscribe to one premium channel you can get the
second premium channel for $7

From Dish Networks website: 2 Packages $22/mo, Save $3 or more a month when you subscribe to any two packages

3 Packages $31/mo, Save $7 or more a month when you subscribe to any three packages
4 Packages $40/mo, Save $14 or more a month when you subscribe to any four packages
5 Packages $50/mo, Save $20 or more a month when you subscribe to any five packages

However, if EPIX is included in the Platinum HD pack [Note: It seems that it is being placed in the Platinum channel range. Nothing official, yet.], then it would not be bad since HD & Platinum is $10 more a month (especially if you are already paying $10/moth for HD &Platinum) with other movie channels like HDNet Movies, MGM HD, IndiePlex HD, and RetroPlex HD. Of course, there is also Centric, Logo, MAV TV HD, Universal HD, WFN HD, Fashion TV HD, and Crime & Investigation HD. The only thing that I think would hurt E* is charging $10 for HD and $10 for Platinum HD like it previously did. If they do this (which I seriously hope they do not), then I hope they at least grandfather in those with HD & Platinum. I mean they were nice enough to grandfather those with HD and Platinum separate for $20/month while new customers were paying HD & Platinum for $10/month.

Dish will be phasing out the 800-333-DISH number in its ads and the new customer service number that will be promoted will be 800-894-9131. (I don't get it... 333 DISH was an easy number to remember..)

Just a thought. I remember somewhere that 888-333-DISH was the number to someone who would try to sign the caller up with Directv or another provider. I'm not sure this is accurate, but it might be a reason to get rid of an 800 number that could be easily confused.

Well, this may be their thinking, but if so, then it's just plain crazy. What they want to do is buy up the 888 number in addition to the 800 number, not abandon their 800 number! If they abandon all numbers ending in DISH, then everybody will be calling the wrong number and getting slammed.

The people holding the 888 number are probably not willing to give it up.

Also, if they get a number that you can't easily remember you will have to look it up. If you look it up, you are less likely to confuse the 800 with 888 since you just looked at it.

I suspect they will not abandon the 800-333-DISH number so it can be taken up by slammers, either. They will hold onto it, even if they don't publicize it.

Next retailer chat should cover the features and limitations of the 922.
Dish should cover and make very clear the necessity of a fast braodband connection where the min upload speed is at least 780 kbs.
For example. I have HSI. MY download is abt 6mbs...However my upoload is a snailike 386kbs.

Then you really DON'T have HSI....they are just calling it that.

it's broadband. That's accurate.
Fast? Uh uh...The DSL here is even slower. For $30 a month you get.......A plodding 1.8mbs download..
The top speed here.
Now in the other end of this neighborhood in the new phases, threy have fiber.
12mbs down 11mbs up...We will not be seeing fiber over here for quite some time.
Telco is too cheap..And no way is this particular telco going to any type of tv/web/tel bundle.

Dont know if it is still the same but if you transposed the last four numbers in 800-333 Dish you got a porn site .

If you transposed the last four numbers of anything with a toll free number you will probably get a porn site.... ;

I don't know what you are talking about being charged $20 bucks a month for HD. No matter what package you have if you want the HD channels they are 10$ bucks a month. And even with the receiver increases I dare you to get cheaper television programming somewhere else with the same setup you have. The odds are really slim of that.

Wake up newbie, in the past the Platinum channels were an extra $10, it looks like it might be coming back....
