Roku (the company) for sale

Get ready for lots of ads featuring golf influencers in bikinis and Nugenix.

And here I thought Fire TV's interface was bad.. Roku was the only streamer with a clean interface that doesn't bombard you with junk.

I already have a $100 mini-PC on one of my TV's. If they ruin Roku, I'll just buy another for my bedroom TV.

Tiger Woods in a bikini? Can't unsee that!

Hope my purchase of a Roku TV yesterday will not turn out to be a mistake.
I hope so too. All the discussion seems to be about the "channels" and streaming services, so hopefully they don't mess too much with the winning recipe that is the OS.

Is the Apple streamer still free of ads and bloatware?
Yes. That said, I am not a fan of where the ATV4K has been headed. tvOS 26 has been buggy as heck for me. In addition to apps just straight up needed to be restarted regularly and crashing, I am getting video stuttering and audio drops pretty regularly which was not a problem before. Also, aside from one 12+ year-old TV with a Samsung soundbar of a similar age, HDMI-CEC just refuses to cooperate. Worse than that, if I turn CEC off, it will turn itself back on randomly. I got HDMI adapters that block CEC signals, but I still run into problems on three TVs where the setting to control volume via IR randomly resets to HDMI-CEC. On one of the TVs, I have to reset the remote to get it working again when this happens. This is not typical of the usual "pretty much just works" experience I get from Apple.

As a result, I have been using Rokus on two of my TVs instead with much better results. The one real problem I've run into is I cannot enable frame-matching on my Roku Ultra in the living room without inducing video stutter on the Netflix app. Beyond that, I find the Roku apps to generally be a bit better overall than the AppleTV apps, especially the Peacock and Paramount+ apps. Not the AppleTV app though, as you might expect.

I am also concerned that the next gen ATV4K seems like it is going to be so AI-focused. I really just want something with a clean interface that will launch apps, be stable, and be fairly simple to use. That used to be ATV4k, but not as much any more. Maybe tvOS 27 will be better, but I am not overly optimistic.

Get your Roku's now, before they run out of stock on the current generation.

Then again, it might be a while before Fox gets into the production aspects of the Roku's ... thier not going to be rebuilding them the day after the agreement is completed.

You think they'll drop Roku STB hardware? How's that working for TiVO?

And the TVs with Roku built in?

Isn't all that hardware a good feed for Roku related (now and in the future) software?

I wish Apple would hurry up and come out with a new Apple TV. I want one that can pass through all kinds of audio types natively.

To me the Roku is like a toy and still looks basically the same since it was released. I don't consider it a real media server, which is why I like Android TV boxes, where I can really customize my experiences. But the Android TV's don't pass all audio types natively either.

Is that actually coming? All I've seen confirmed is hi-res audio on Apple Music in tvOS 27.

I think most people do, but these companies keep shoving more ads and "features" on the user that we don't want. I would still prefer to buy "dumb" TV's also.
