I hope the new owners don't ruin the software/devices. I don't love the ads, but I have two TVs that don't really play nice with anything other than Roku.

I don't. I have a Roku connected to it. You don't need to ever connect it to the internet, even for initial setup.

??? I'm confused. FireTV and Roku are competing devices. They both do the same thing in slightly different ways. Why do you have them connected together? I have an Apple TV, a Roku, and a Firestick. They each connect to my Denon AVR via HDMI. I useeach of them to watch apps. Some apps work better depending on the device.

It was a cheap TV on sale. I hate the Android/Fire interface so I just connected my Roku to it. That's why I would prefer to just buy "dumb TV's" and use my own streamer.

Soooooo you are bragging about not connecting your tv to the internet while at the same time using a roku....why not just buy a regular tv?

Ah, now I understand. I have something like that in my bedroom. It has a Roku TV and I have a Joey plugged into it. When Apple gets around to selling a new Apple TV I will rotate my present 3 ATVs and move my 1st generation to that bedroom.

I use a Firestick connected to my Roku/ONN 55" TV that Walmart had on sale for $199 at the time. It was quicker to just plug in the already set up Firestick than it was to set up the TV with my various apps. Then when I did take time to check out the Roku set up, I decided I liked the Firestick better anyway, so I set the TV to automatically startup with the Firestick active.

Exactly. A smart TV is now a "regular" TV.

Actually, I find a lot of these Individual Channels to be quite interesting ...

The go into how the songs were made and why lots of time and give you history of what was happening.

Scott, I Think I heard last week that they are Extending the Hotel California's time frame.

It ended on Friday. But it was really good. And I really liked hearing some of the live concerts. The Eagles was a great band. Wish I could go see them at the Sphere.

Yes, he is, but not posted in years, and he is also a ham radio operator.

I wonder if his Maserati still does 185, or if Life's still being good to him? 😁

With the 1st Quarter Report just released, Dish lost another 180,000, now at 4.84 Million.

Sling now at 1.79 million subscribers, down approximately 190,000.

For comparison, YouTube TV now has about double the subscribers of Dish and Sling combined.

I think the way we will see things go (my crystal ball) is Dish will buy DIRECTV and then Elon will buy Dish.

Why would Elon want DISH? Really curious on that one and the answer. Is Charlie talking retirement and wants out?

Lots of satellite spectrum, many national data that will be working for a long long time, lots of technology and patients that Dish owns etc.

If you watch closely Dish is working to accumulate new satellite technologies which would be perfect in Elons pocket and they are able to buy them without much scrutiny like they would probably have if Elon purchased them.

Lots of money is already being thrown at Dish by Elon. What money is he throwing at DIRECTV?
T
The question isn't who would want (DiSH), but who would want it for what price. It still own satellites and orbital assignments, along with remaining auction-purchased spectrum and a nascent mobile service. Add DTV to that and it's quite a lot. DBS service could be condensed to a single platform as it dwindles off in sub #s

And again, how does that show he wants Dish TV?

How would that be good for Dish TV?

For the spectrum, not for the Television part of Echostar.

he can re purpose the sats in space plus he could do that with the ground stations. elon would be buying infrastructure. charlie is working on satellite to phone as well. dtv don't have anymore sats in there fleet whatever's left that's it. dish just launched another sat so something's up.

Because he keeps investing in them.

Dish was almost bankrupt but now is smooth sailing due to Elon money.

Keep watching. :)

Hope they wrap the series up in a nice neat bow.
This could extend to the whole franchise of Trek serials.

If the sets are already gone that would indicate the rumored Kirk series won't be happening.

So, what, no new Trek at all after season 5?

Nope. One more season of Starfleet academy and season 4 and 5 of strange new worlds then that's it.

I'm sure something will come along eventually. Too valuable a property not to do something. I'm hoping for some new creative blood.

I read somewhere recently that Andy Weir (of The Martian fame) submitted a series proposal to Paramount and they showed no interest.

The only one that has come out of this is Section 31on Paramount+. I heard they may make a series with the Kirk character from Strange New Worlds.
long_time_DNC
Well, that would be something... Otherwise, the franchise grinds to a halt again. And Section 31 wasn't something I'd really think of as Trek.

It seems amazing to me that I never see published test reports comparing tuner sensitivity. Instead, the reviews I've seen compare features and software interfaces, which mean nothing to me compared to knowing how good the tuner is in the first place. I'm 25-30 miles from the transmitters in my area, have a good rooftop antenna with new coax and no splitters of any kind. I get a great picture on most channels, but there are a few channels that I can pick up on my 2 year-old LG TV that I can't receive on my HDHomeRun Connect DUO HDHR5-2US. I am wondering if a newer, better tuner is available that would work with my PLEX server or perhaps a Channels server if I went that route. Incredibly, I can't seem to find any reviews where someone takes all the most popular tuners and hooks them up one by one to the same antenna and says, "This model received a clear picture on 25 channels, but this other model got 29 channels". We have several strong ATSC 3.0 channels in my area, but I really just want a more sensitive tuner that's able to pull in as many channels as my LG TV. ATSC 3.0 would be icing on the cake, but it's not important if the tuner can't pick up weak channels as well as my TV tuner. Do any of you have comparison info regarding different brands/models of TV tuners that could work with a Plex or Channels DVR server? Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this question.

If I was a smart guy I'd think that the stucco was put over expanded metal mesh. It won't be good.
That's a pretty compact antenna. 15 miles and direct line of sight, sure. Shooting through buildings even with a custom cut yagi for your intended frequency probably would give a bit of an improvement. An amp and considering you aren't getting multipath could help. Tried turning the antenna and looking at signal levels? Looking to see if the buildings might be reflecting RF?

A far shot. Me being me. In Fl, I was 70 miles from Tampa. Condo assoc. and antennas were a no-no.
Took an old mast mounted booster and some 300 ohm twin lead. When nobody next door was home I stapled a chunk of the twin perpendicular to Tampa and a few chunks of copper wire to the entry way. Stained the color of the wood. 2 directors, the twin lead running to the booster. And a chunk stapled behind for reflector. For a 4 element yagi. The jankiest, stealthiest yagi using Yagi Designer. It worked! Got FM radio crystal clear. Already had catv.

And....said it before. The redneck-stumpjumpers up here. Middle of the winter, home for the holidays.
Went to an old friends for the Buffalo game. Snow out the ying-yang. Drove up to a commotion. Friend yelling out of the window to another guy with a bare bed spring hoisted up a pine tree with a couple ropes. "Go up more". "Randy, turn it a little". Using the spring to snag more signal for the chimney mounted antenna.
Yeah. You're shaking your heads like I was. BS. But apparently it worked. We watched the game and got smashed in all sorts of ways....

Chopperdy-chop. Already turned a few on to it. A bed and breakfast in the boonies whose only option was Hughesnet.
Hunters come in, capped-out in 15 minutes. 2 years ago turned them onto Starlink. I'm the mesiah! They grunted at the initial startup cost and monthly. Prices went down. No snow issues unless it gets brutal out.
REC has fiber right out the door on the pole with my ISP hardline. It's a concept thing. It worked for 12+ years. Then didn't. Like the Ford with full factory warranty. Tail light out? Fix it already. Don't tell me to ditch it and drive across the street to the Honda dealer. Right?

My best bet is convincing the landlord to allow me to put it up on the flat roof on a non-penetrating mount. After I've been there a couple more months I'm going to ask.

True, and there's another guy in the building across from me with a big ass antenna up there, so I doubt they would ever even notice or care. Getting up there is going to be the hard part. Wanna come help? I can pay you in beer!

I'm afraid my days of climbing ladders and midnight mischief are behind me. But I'm guessing there is probably a vent pipe up there that you could clamp your mast to. No need for a NPRM.
