Is the Apple streamer still free of ads and bloatware?
There is no Bloatware, but "Ads" is in the eye of the beholder. The Apple TV App has trailers for their programing. Is that an "Ad"?

But, the Home Screen is basically nothing but Apps. Other than the TV App trailers, no Ads are presented.

Samsung refuses to support Dolby Vision. Deal breaker for me.

My 2020 Sony X90CH still gets OS and app updates all the time. I do realize that won't last forever but I am pleasantly surprised things have held together this long.

They do have a skip button when they play the trailer.

No Dolby Vision would be a Deal Breaker for me as well.

I really haven't had too much trouble with my Sony's app wise.

I have been told that the App people Netflix, PP+ ect, do NOT update regularly, like the apps them selves do ...
I'd love to prove them wrong, but haven't found proof yet.

There is a setting in the Sony A95 buried deep that did say something about updates, which I turned On ... so I don't know for sure.

Maybe people are just trying to sell Roku's ...

You can stop them from playing in Apple TV+ settings.

FYI: If you like Google TV (aka Android TV), there is a setting in under your account in the Accounts & Profiles settings called Apps Only Mode that turns off most of the ads. It is much more similar to the AppleTV UI with that enabled with just one big ad above the apps.

Which reminds me, Apple added the ability to display ads in the tvOS UI a few versions back. They have stated they have no plans to insert ads "at this time." Hopefully that remains the case.

As for DV support, given how poorly most TVs do at correctly displaying DV content, especially from streaming apps, and the fact that most streaming apps have been adding HDR10+ support, it really doesn't factor into the purchasing decision for me. I don't have any Samsung TVs at present, but I'd totally buy one of their top-end OLEDs given how good the picture is. I might feel different if I was watching a lot of 4K DV Blu-rays, but I am not. If I were to avoid Samsung, it would be for other reasons, such as all the terrible things I hear about Tizen, or why the heck did they put a silver frame around their new flagship OLED than cannot be removed?

Insignia TVs used to be manufactured for Best Buy by Samsung and were good quality, but that hasn't been the case for a while now. The current Insignia TVs are made by the lowest-bidder contract manufacturer and are largely junk.

I don't even consider smart features when choosing a TV. I prefer the component approach and just use the TV as a display. I am far from towers, so I can't even use the tuner.

I worry that having content creators own the streaming platform may limit what content is carried, especially news and religious content that the owner disapproves.

I'll have to look later. Dinner time.
Well, before they added additional profiles, you would hit your account/name and the settings would be there. Nowt they ask if you want to add ot edit profile. So, I wouldn't know how to turn them back on if I wanted to. There's gotta be a way.

Same, it's all about the screen and reliability for me. I've used Chromecasts and other similar devices almost exclusively since their inception.

Yeah, this is the continuation of a trend unfortunately. This isn't an ecosystem I'm invested in and there are a plethora of alternatives though, so less concerned about this one personally. It does virtually guarantee I'll never own another Roku though.

HERE it is, in the sidebar you hardly ever see, unless by accident,
I thought you meant there was a setting to not have it play the promotions at the beginning of the content you are watching. Those settings do not do that.

Also in tvOS 26.6 on my Apple TV there is not a "Settings" option in the sidebar.
