On an AppleTV running tvOS 26.x, go to the Settings App, scroll down to Apps, then under App Settings select TV. Here is where you will find the Auto-Play for Play Next Episode, Play a Recommendation, what to show on the Top Shelf of Apple TV (What to Watch or Continue Watching), and further down, under Video and Audio, the option to Autoplay Video Sound (as well as Streaming Video Quality and Audio Language).

You originally said:
Other than the TV App trailers, no Ads are presented.
And KAB replied:
You can stop them from playing in Apple TV+ settings.
As far as I can see none of the settings on the Apple TV device anywhere will stop the promotional trailers from playing in front of the content.

I didn't claim you could eliminate the trailers, all you can do is eliminate the sound from playing when the trailers show up in the menu.

If you switch the Top Row to Continue Watching, the AppleTV tile on the Home Screen will not play any trailers, just show your next up in your Watch queue. But again, Apple can still insert a trailer for their promoted content before an episode starts, which you'll have to Skip when the button appears.

Settings is an app, hit the gallery button or whatever it is to get to the app tiles, and then it's there iirc.
The Apple TV was made a lot more confusing while the device is named the Apple TV and the Apple streaming content is in the app that is also named Apple TV. It was said there was "Settings" within that app. There might have been in earlier tvOS versions but there is not in tvOS 26 as you have stated correctly that all tvOS 26 settings are in the Settings app that you described.

I know you didn't but the other poster said there was a place to keep the trailers from showing up which there isn't. Mine is set to Continue Watching and when you continue watching it will show trailers on almost all Apple content and it also will show trailers from other streaming services as well periodically but not as much as Apple content. There is no setting anywhere on the Apple TV that will eliminate trailers completely.

  • 100M+ streaming households via Roku's platform
  • The Roku Channel + first-party viewer data
  • Bigger ad inventory to pair with Tubi and Fox content
  • 3rd-largest US TV player by viewing share
  • ~$400M in expected annual cost synergies
They also have Howdy, which is ad-free.

if that was me, I apologize. I was thinking of the ability to stop recommendations and auto play after what you are watching ends. Foxbat is right that all you can do for trailers is stop the sound.

IMO this is kinda annoying but still a MASSIVE step up from other streamers which are rife with actual ads and junk apps.

No it wasn't you. I agree the SKIP button works fine and doesn't bother me at all. I have used Roku's and Fire TV devices and will never go back to either one.

I used to really like the Firestick, even if the Recast DVR didn't work that well, but I fled due to the UI changes and additional ads. If there was an apps-only option like Google TV has, I'd totally consider switching back.

Never tried it, but they are claiming it is doing very well.

To me they look like a bunch of FAST channels and free OTA diginets, not sure why anybody would pay for this-

I've tried a bunch of alternate launchers on Android/Google TV over the years. Projectivity seemed the best to me, but they all had weird bugs (features?) that annoyed me. That's why I just put my profile in Apps-only mode which gets me 90% of what I want without the unpredictable behavior.

I hope the new owners don't ruin the software/devices.
No kidding. I have 4 4K Roku TVs that have been pretty free of ads on the UI itself.
And here I thought Fire TV's interface was bad.. Roku was the only streamer with a clean interface that doesn't bombard you with junk.
Yeah, we always liked it best.

I am subbed to that for $3/mo. Well worth it to get rid of ads.

I see a lot of people freaking out online about Fox buying Roku for a variety of reasons (see Cord Cutters News clickbaity videos). I'll admit that some of them maybe legit. That said, most acquisitions like this don't result in too much disruption when the acquired company is a separate entity. They don't want to mess with a winning formula. They want to leverage it to make their core business more successful.

Ultimately, Fox is interested in sports and news viewers. If you're not one of those, then they probably aren't interested in showing you a bunch of their high-dollar ad impressions anyway, which means you'll see remnant stuff just like we already do on Roku's home screen.

That said, this is the same Fox that cancelled Firefly, so you never know. The deal still has to go through, and Wall Street doesn't seem too impressed, so who knows what will actually happen? Hopefully it will turn out better than AT&T buying DirecTV and WB. I am not going to get to concerned about it until I need something concrete to justify it.
