I loved the guy, but not sure what to think of all this.

Former pastor and Pittsburgh native Richard Rossi is leading the charge to have the late, great Roberto Clemente canonized as a saint and he's actually gotten support in starting the process from the Pope (Catholic News Wire, via CBS Pittsburgh). The next step is to begin the process of canonization through the archbishop of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Just a couple of locals pushing for their guy. I, being a HUGE Clemente guy(still say a little prayer every December 31st for him) would love this. For Latin ball players, especially black Latinos, he was OUR Jackie Robinson.

Clemente was a Hall of Famer and, no doubt, an outstanding ambassador to his community. However, Sainthood is something afforded to the likes of Mother Teresa and the bar is set very high indeed. Still, it's nice to see he is still be recognized for this humanitarian efforts after all these years.
