I apologize the 1.3% usage fee is for customers who lease their equipment.

I live in Arizona and lease my equipment. My bill shows "STATE/LOCAL TAX (SALES/GROSS RECEIPTS) . . . . $0.41" This sounds like an actual tax and I don't see any other fees listed. The tax was the same amount before the rate increase a few months ago. It must not be a percentage of the subscription price or it would have gone up a little with the rate increase.

I'm thinking of 'moving' across a state line for additional sports programming. However, the new state has a 6% tax, and with DishPlatinium, thats almost $7 extra per month for me. Plus I would need to add the sport pack, another $6.

Here is my question that someone may know:

Does E* assess sales taxes on the billing address or service address?

Virginia: currently there is no tax on satellite television services. However, HB568 "Communications Tax Reform" was recently passed/signed into law that places a 5% tax on satellite television. I believe the effective date is 1 Jan 2007.

That is correct. It basically puts a 5% state tax on all named communication services. It replaces existing taxes on some of these. If you hace satellite, cell or VOIP service you will pay more. If you have cable and land lines you will pay less.

The 6 % tax in Ohio is the sales tax. They extended it to cover satellite. E* and D* have complained that it does not also cover cable.

BTW I am unaware of any state charging BOTH a sales tax and a separate satellite tax. Does anyone know of any?

I'm in Taxachusetts but for once this tax seems reasonable.... :)

My total monthly bill for programming and everything is 99.99 so with the tax my bill is 100.49

It appears that the State of New Jersey does not tax Satellite subscription.:) The current tax rate is 6% but our Gov is looking to increase the tax to 7%.:(

Im trying to put together a list of what the sales tax is for Satellite programming in each state.

Some states do not charge tax at all, while others tax the programming.

Please post what the Tax rate is in your state, and if your state does not charge sales tax then what the sales tax rate is just on the leased equipment.

In Michigan for example there no tax, however we are taxed 6% on the $5 equipment rental fee which is $.30 per recever per month

Claude,

Why don't you create a sticky with the results by state?

Colorado (where I lived until last month) has no tax on the Dish bill.

Tennessee:

"...The Tennessee statute imposes an 8.25 percent sales tax on the entire amount of satellite customers' monthly subscription fees... (taken from www.stopsatellitetax.com)"

On my last bill I paid under State/Local Tax (Sales/Gross Receipts) line: $9.48!!!

Our regular sales tax on everything is actually 9.25% but we do not have income tax.
