Up until about 5 years ago, I was an installer for a small home theater group and during that time, installed over 50 Directv/Dishnetwork systems. Even though I haven't installed many multi LNB antenna's I understand the concept quite well.

My Mother just had a small section of residing done and left it up to me to re-tune her 1000.2 dish. She has a ViP212 receiver. I have hours in to tuning this dish. Running check switch indicates I am getting 119 and 129 with an X where 110 should be. When I look at the signal meter, I'm getting about 65% on both 119 and 129 but for 110, it's slightly lower but is red and indicates that it's locked on 129. This seems very strange to me.

Any ideas?

Not familiar with the 212??? Suspect that you need to re-direct the 1000.2 a little more south. The setup on the 1000.2 does work much better when the mounting foot or post is carefully plumbed. Go back and verify your bacic setup. I suppose the check switch test shows x's for where 110 should appear as well as CONN alert?????

Move your dish a little to the left and raise the elevation a little. Sounds to me you are too far right.

Sorry, I meant the 211. I've check the mast and it's true on both directions. I've swapped the LNB with my dish (also 1000.2) and the problem stayed with the dish.

Does it seem strange that the receiver is locking in on 119 and 129 but for 110, showing 129 - wrong sat?

Read my post above yours. It is not strange the just the wrong LNBs picking up wrong sat.

if it reads...129 119 and x, then point it sevgeral degrees furthur east. the 119 port is picking up 129...110 port is picking up 119.
you say there is an x where 110 should be. 110 should be in the middle. if not, its pointed wrong (assuming you have a triple 1002 lnb)

So you say that on check switch screen that 119 OK 129 OK and where 110 should show you see what?????? I'm talking about the results on check switch screen, not point dish and signal.....................

Right, the check switch screen was showing 129 - OK, 119 - OK and 110 - X. I'm going to head back over there and try again. I think I'll also try the tin foil idea that others have tried in other threads.

I'm glad it's 10 degrees out!

i gaurantee its pointed too far west if it lists 129 and 119 first on the checkswitch screen. ive mispointed 1002 dishes like that a hundred times, before i had a good meter. no need for tin foil, turn it left.

the checkswitch:
should read 119 ok 110 ok 129 ok
110 x 119 means point it further west
x x 110 means point it even further west
129 119 x measn point it east

hope that helps

Well, I spent over an hour in the cold and with no luck. I again pulled the dish off and checked the mast. Perfectly plum. I scanned at 29 degrees elevation and from there, went up 1/2 degree each time (up to almost 40). Every time I get a tone, it lands on the same spot where it locks in 129 and 119 but with 110 locked in on 129. It seems that the switch is memorizing this setup.

I brought her receiver back to my house and plugged it in and it wouldn't recognize my signal. Do I need to do a check switch and then take it back to her house and try again?

No, I'm using the skew settings for the 211 receiver, selecting Superdish as my antenna. Skew setting is 116 degrees according to my zip which is the same as the set up at my place.

are you doing a checkswitch every time you try to aim it? if you aim it correctly and dont execute a checkswitch, its still not going to work. oh, and by the way, de-select superdish on the checkswitch screen. 116 doesnt sound too far off. is that the physical skew setting of your own antenna?
It really is an aiming issue you are having, i think not performing the checkswitch may be your issue as well, as the receiver will keep the wrong matrix in memory unless you re-run it. your idea of doing a checkswitch at your house is a good one, that way it will memorize the correct matrix and will it be easier for you to aim back at her house. you may have to break down and buy a cheap signal meter, or...just call dish. if you ask for a so-called 'one time courtesy' they may send a tech out for free.

OK, it looks like it was a checkswitch issue. I had it aimed correctly. I took the receiver back to my place and did a check switch there. When all 3 locations locked in, I took it back up to her place and it locked in, without even having to move the dish. All 3 locations are now working at her place. That stupid switch just wouldn't let me signal meter 110 for some reason. Too bad I didn't have a meter.

Thanks to everyone for their help!
