Does anyone have any idea how the cable's version of HDTV compares to satellite? This is from a quality of picture standpoint, not necessarily how many channels are available.

This is a question that comes up over and over. There is only one answer, it fully depends on your local cable company and the satellite provider you chose to compare them to. You need to find someone in your area who has HD cable and someone who has HD satellite, and view it for yourself or ask them to compare it for you.
