SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA POWERVU SATELLITE RECEIVER #D9835 - $35 - some dude on craigslist has three of these in my area. 35.00 a peice with boxes, cables, etc. I emailed him and told him I might be interested in one. But I wanted your guys answers first. THe picture he posted of one looks killer.

Thanks,

Josh

I have the 9834 which is pretty much the same thing. Here is the manual
http://www.satelliteguys.us/fta-manuals/92594-scientific-atlanta-powervu-receivers.html

honestly its designed for the Armed Forces Network stuff on 89W. If you are part of the armed forces you can get a card to put in and sub to the AFN stuff.

Otherwise its a simple DVB receiver.
no 4:2:2
no AC-3 (maybe that is what the 9835 does but I know the 34 doesnt)
not the easiest thing to program
the remote is almost a must to get into the hidden menus. I found a Rat Shack universal that works

I have a D9234 receiver that works fine. I've used it for the RTV channels and some AMC4 channels and even loaned it out for trial setups to help get others interested in FTA for only watching a couple of channels on one sat.

It has a really sensitive tuner. But, it cannot blind scan or operate DiSEqC switch and certainly not user friendly. Mine is a commercial unit intended to setup and run, not play with.

For $35 you could buy better. Plenty of good boxes out there that can do more and easier to program.

okay so update

They e-mailed me back saying they were all sold. They also said they are a satellite company and have many satellite materials. WTF O.O. So I sent a e-mail back saying do they have a list or store front. Plus if they could do a 4dtv battery. I hope they know what that is. To have a store who takes care of other stuff than pizza pans dishes. Would be freaking amazing.

TTFN,

Josh
