I have SD TV and 625 DVR, which was great until the Fisher dispute occurred. My wife wants me to find a non VCR solution to recording the ABC shows we like to watch. I know the newer HD DVR's offer OTA recording, but a: would Dishnetwork lease me a receiver if I didn't buy an HD package? and b: even of they would would I be able use it with my SD TV? Would it down convert the OTA HD recording so we would be able to watch it?

I had considered some other options like a DVD recorder or the DTVPAL DVR, but those are $250.00-$300.00 options and I would prefer to not add additional components.
I was hoping not to buy a new TV until my current big screen monster gives up the ghost.

If anyone has any other ideas I would be interested in hearing them too.

Thanks for your time.
