They will not let customer self install? Most of us have ku dishes laying around and linear lnbfs.

Can I use a old dish 500 that I have with a single lnb pointed at 117 ?

What are the dimensions of the Dish 500? I'm not sure what the required minimum dish size is. According to Titanium's very thorough install notes in this thread, the Orby dish is about 69 cm wide so I'm not sure you'd want to go much smaller than that.

I am not sure. I will take it out of the shed . I might pick up a receiver this weekend and give it a try.

I Dish 500 lnb won't work as it's circular, and the wrong frequency. Not only that, but it's probably a "D" type mount, which means you can't easily retrofit a standard ku lnb in place of it.

The DISH 500 is relatively small and the DISH LNBs that are used with it aren't suitable. Perhaps more importantly, the DISH 500 is designed for use with two orbital slots so you would ideally set up the LNB off of center where the twin LNB assemblies would place one.

A DIRECTV WorldDish would probably work better as it is much larger than the DISH 500 and has a linear LNB at a focus.
