Should I trust Dish Network on their offer.

Norman, Ok
I currently have AT&T Dish Network with a Vip722 and pay $46.00 per month with the 120 package. They are offering me A Hopper and two Joey's (3 TV's) for $51.00 if I sign a 2 year contract. They said I can pay a $95.00 install fee or sign up for the protection plan for $7.00 a month to waive the $95.00 fee, which they said I can cancel in 4 months, and I wouldn't have to pay the $95.00. And went on to say if I did have an issue after the 4 months, just call and sign up for the protection plan before I report any issues with the equipment.

I've heard horror stories about Dish making a lot of promises, and then the bill shows up and there's a lot of additional fees they didn't bother to mention.
Does this offer seem legit? I just don't want to get caught up in a contract and battle them with a he said/she said. I asked for an email from them on their offer, but the salesperson said he couldn't do that, which leads me to be more suspicious on the offer.

I tried to go to MYDish.com and build an upgrade, but being an AT&T customer I couldn't do it.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Yea, not sure about the whole cancel after four months and have no cancel fees. Sounds like this "deal" is not coming straight from Dish, so beware

Though in regard to the Protection plan, yes Dish in the past has thrown in the protection plan for a few months and then You can chose to not continue it and occur no problems, not sure if that is part of Dish's promo right now.

I am guessing you are saving a bit by going with AT&T but you may want to see see what DIRT can do if you ever wanted to go straight through DISh

I would only deal with DIRT. I'm sure the price they are quoting you is for just one year, then it jacks ups the second. DIRT is the only no-doubt source.

I don't understand how you currently get AT120 for $46/mo, since the normal price is $49.95. That $51 sounds suspiciously like your AT120 price plus the difference in a 722 DVR fee and the Hopper DVR fee, which of course is MISSING the two $7/mo Joey fees.

The AT120 is $50, the Whole-Home DVR fee is $12 and each Joey is $7. Your bill would be $76 unless you are getting any kind of discounts. Oh, and if you had the protection plan you can tack another $7 per month on there.

My Bad... I have the Dish America package..Not the 120, but anyways, I called Dish back this morning and the price went to $72.00 WTF? Why can't these reps be honest and straightforward on the price. I'm sure if I called back again I'd get a different price.

Even if I just went with one Joey the price is $69.00.. A $23.00 increase for basically the same service I'm getting now, only adding HD to TV2 and a little extra recording time.

Who is DIRT?

If that's all the Hopper means to you, no reason to upgrade but it isn't just an additional HD outlet in your case. And I believe your math is a little off because you gave the wrong package and now are comparing Dish America to getting Top120. DIRT are actual DISH CSR's who are on this site and can give you the best answer to your questions. When they are online here they show up in red at the bottom of this page with the list of online members;

There is a sticky for Hopper upgrades in the sticky section under the Hopper section of the Dish fourm.

You're probably correct Darrel.. I called Dish last night and they wouldn't help me one bit until I unbundled with AT&T, and the sick thing is that AT&T only wants to sell me U-verse. I feel like I'm stuck in this black hole that's sucking all my brain cells out of my ears.

N.B. If you do decide to unbundle, MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS THROUGH DISH or else you'll permanently lose all recordings archived to your EHD (if you have one). You can't cancel your bundle first, and expect to get the same account number later. (Won't happen.)

Exactly why bundling is a pain.

Protection Plan: what you were told is exactly correct. There is NO catch. Without the protection plan, a tech visit is $95. With it, it is either $15 or $0. The protection plan is $7/month. If you drop it short of 120 days, there is a $25 early termination fee, after that, no penalty. And yes, you can add it back later if needed.

As an AT&T customer, you would be able to drop that account and start a new one like a new customer, which would mean those amounts you noted would be just about right (although don't quote me 100% on that, an account specialist (which I used to be a long time ago) could confirm that for sure).

(Edit) You can ALWAYS ask the person on the phone to break down the total cost, line by line. Write it down. Get their operator ID number, in case you're misquoted.
