Signal loss on some Directv channels

I have three Directv receivers. On some channels , such as 202, the 771 dialogue box comes up indicating signal loss. On other channels, such as 356, this never happens. All of my connections are tight and my dish is not obstructed. The sky is clear. This problem started about a month ago. Does anyone know how to fix this? I live on the Big Island, Hawaii.

If it happens on some channels but not others it could be bad a LNB (really the only possibility if you have a single wire from the dish) or could be either the LNB or the SWM switch or the cabling if you have four wires from the dish.

Since the OP is in Hawaii I guess he/she has the 1.2m AK/HI dish. That would have at least a four outlet LNB to a SWiM multiswitch mounted somewhere.

I thought the big dish had a SWM LNB available as well? Though I agree most likely it is probably the four coax LNB to a SWM switch. If the latter is the case then he should try swapping the four coaxes going into the SWM switch, just to eliminate the cables as a potential cause. That would narrow it to either the LNB or the SWM.

The SWM is easier/cheaper to replace on your own if he wants to try to fix it himself, otherwise just call Directv and they'll replace what needs to be replaced.

They developed a legacy six outlet RB LNB for the AK/HI dish such as the "SL3RBAH" in the WNC products catalog here. For connection to a DSWM-30 multiswitch.

But no integrated SWiMLNB for it that I know of ...

I suppose they figure AK/HI LNBs are too low volume (especially once Hawaii is able to start using the Slimline) to make more than one kind.

Yeah ... as it's soon only going to be really needed in Alaska ...

And the very low volume production is probably why even at this late date, I can only find it for restricted availability on the NACE site so far ...

A Directv technician came by and found that a bush was blocking the reception. Using the LNB as a reference there was nothing blocking the signal. The technician indicated that this was not correct. The actual area of signal is to the left. He said that most technicians don't know this; neither did I.

The Sat signal comes in higher than the dish arm, so you can't look at the arm for reference ...
However, when he said that the signal comes from the left, he may have been stating that the Sat to the left was being blocked ...
The Sats your looking at are the 99, 101 and 103, so maybe the 99 was blocked while the rest were ok ... which is actually hard to do seeing the Sats are all clustered together .

My thinking is that what the tech. is probably referring to is that since the sub's location is in Hawaii, the dish tilt angle is so high at around 154° (according to dishpointer.com).

That accounting for some 25° offset angle of the dish, would indeed mean the signal area is far more horizontal to the left of the dish face than vertically up from it.
