Software Versions for Android TV (ATV) devices - Joey 4, Wireless Joey 4, Hopper Plus

Advertisements
IIRC the 4K Joey came out slightly before the Hopper3 because the 4K Joey was first used with the Hopper 2000 or maybe the Hopper with Sling. I haven't dug into the annals of Satelliteguys to confirm.

EDIT

4K Joey was released in January 2015, Hopper 3 was released in February 2016.

4K Joey, premature and stillborn.
You are right as all I remember is it's before the ATV and it's not even 4K/UHD. Hopper 2000 already existed in November 2012.

My Hopper Plus and all my Joey 4s updated at the same time.
I did a manual force updated from H703 to H706 yesterday which shows something like a timestamp of 12:20PM yesterday, the Hopper Plus update which was actually automatic this time appears to have a timestamp of 12:44PM yesterday and the first time I didn't have to do a manual update on the Hopper Plus.

As of the time of this writing, these are the latest software versions for the following Android TV (ATV) devices:
Joey 4 - P55211
Wireless Joey 4 - P65211
Hopper Plus - P15211
All my devices updated to 5211, but the date still is 1/29/2026. What date is your equipment?

I wouldn't know since it's not part of the Technician Software Downloads on the Hopper 3 which also does not show up in the Available Joey Software Listing on the diagnostics screen on the Hopper 3 ….
Unless I misunderstood what you meant, that seems to not be true. When go to my 4k Joey's diagnostics screen, it show the current SW version as k106. And when go to my H3 diagnostics screen, k106 is definitely listed as part of Available Joey Software.

Hopper 3 H706 2/26/2026 12:22AM Pacific Time
Hopper Plus P15211 2/26/2026 12:40AM Pacific Time

The Hopper Plus P15211 updated on it's own as I was on another input of the TV after the Hopper 3 restarted after the update process to H706.

No idea as I only have a Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus. The 4K Joey is not a ATV (Android TV) device so my Hopper 3 Available Joey Software will always start with two W's, 1 J, and 1 K before the two P versions for the Hopper Plus. I still wouldn't know the W, J, K would refer to as I only figure out the versions and what device it belongs to based on the Download ATV Software information which has both the product name and the version number, it will show up twice, the first one is just P152 which is the major version and then it will show P15211 for the minor version. Goto Download ATV files in the Technician Settings and it will ask you for what devices you want to download for, I always download everything listed and check again later until everything is completed. Never knew how to install from the downloaded ATV files though. After downloading, the Available Joey Software will show all devices and both version numbers for each device instead of only for the Hopper Plus. So I only know about version numbers for ATV devices which always start with a P and what device they are for as they all run on Google Android. So this thread only concerns devices that have a P for the first letter for the software version. For the W, J, and K - whatever it shows in the Available Joey Software would be what your setup thinks is available, there is nothing other than a force update you can do anyways which is still true even with the P devices as Check for updates using that device's interface will still only update if something newer is available to be downloaded and installed. And K106 is what I see as well but I still wouldn't know what device that is for out of the blue as there is nothing else to show what device it is for.

I have never did an update on my Joey 4s ever
It's a YMMV situation and the Joey 4s do not have the manual update option available according to others in this thread. My Hopper Plus in the last 3 years 3 months and 3 days exactly since I have had it had only updated the software once on February 27, 2026, all the other times, I had to update it manually. With that said, no one said you had to do it manually, whether you are up to date and not seriously behind is another issue altogether which you would not know without downloading ATV software on the Hopper 3's Technician Settings or look at the Hopper 3's Diagnostics screen in the Available Joey Software section to see if the P version number with the 5 digits after the P is bigger than what's installed. With that said, having Aspect Ratios and Multi-View features available sooner rather than later is a benefit but there can be risks in newer bugs or features that can be introduced. I only listed what version I updated from because there are times when I don't even check to see if I am on the latest version of software on the Hopper 3 and/or Hopper Plus which can be months or even years as it's low priority. I don't even use DISH except to check what chapter(s) the shows are broadcasting daily and actually watch it using TVBAnywhere North America from my phone by casting it to the Google Chromecast Ultra 4K since both the audio and the video is higher quality than DISH and I don't have to sit there within 45 minutes of it being streamed.
