split incoming sat signal

Is there a way to split the incoming direct tv sat signal so that one lead can go to a dvdrecorder while the other stays with the receiver without a downgrade of the signal?

Unless the DVD recorder has an integrated satellite receiver it's not even the same type of signal. You would connect the satellite receiver to the DVD recorder using video and audio connections.
